brown thick crap

Link- Have you checked your phosphate levels? I would buy a test kit. Do you use tap water or Ro/DI water? Your phosphate levels are probably up there and with you just adding the new, higher wattage lights, are fueling your cyno..Increase your flow 75g x 20=1500g of flow. Most people are inbetween 30-60 x's. Increasing your flow doesnt allow the algae to take a foothold on the sand. Run a phosban reactor to help reduce the phosphates. I would also look into the sand that you purchased and make sure its for reef setups. Some can leach phosphate and silicates into the water system. Good luck!

ill be getting 4 maxi jets 1200 a mag drive 9.5 and ill order a phosban reactor tomorrow hope this works yes i do run a ro-di

I'm sure it's just a cycle from the lights and a lack of flow. I'm sure you'll notice a difference after you get your new pumps in. Hang in there, it can be frustrating at times but if you give it time it almost always gets better.

i took my water up to aquatic environments every thign was fine but i have 2 ppm of phosphate so some one sold me phosguard and that is cyanobacteria in my tank so he sold me some chemiclean red slime remover hope it works i went to buy a reactor it was 199.99 from aquatic environments that told me if i run phosphate remover for a long time my leathers will not like it to much so i did not get one i got phosguard and a bag from him to put it in said i am giving to much food to cut back so i will tomorrow ill order all my stuff and i need a master test kit so ill get it all from one place is Drs. Foster & Smith the best place? to get all this ?

Phosgard is aluminum based phospate removing media which will release some aluminum if not rinsed properly which will cause some reaction upon softies but nothing permanent. Rinse it well using RO/DI water and replace the first batch it after one week and the second one after three weeks. Phosgard is it a cheaper alternative for the initial lowering of phosphate but for maintenance and long term (after the initial tratment with phosgard for 4 weeks) I would recommend a GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide Hydroxide) based phosphate remover like Phosban or Phosar (Pelletized Phosar is my preferred one)
While you are at ordering get a Phosban reactor, It is cheap (around $35.00 to $40.00) and you can use it for Phosgard, GFO or carbon and it is a lot more effective than a bag.
