Brown tree looking thing in tank?

Hi guys, just a quick question.. have noticed three brown tree algae type things growing on my live rock and glass, help with the ID pls!

That my friend is aiptasia.

aptasia anemone.A bad pest to have.I use pickling lime made into a paste and inject them to kill them .

Peppermint shrimp don't always work and should not be relied on fully. I would use another method to kill the anemome and use the peppermint to eat the 'leftovers' and smaller anemones.

I think the zoomed in picture makes them bigger then they are. They are quite small right now

Aiptasia-X quickly became my best friend when I had that in mine. I did add a peppermint shrimp after treating as a preventative measure. I haven't seen him eat any but I haven't really had any come back so maybe he did...

I love Aiptasia-X. Works as advertised. Get them gone ASAP.

Aiptasia-X worked for the ones I could get to. I'm dealing with one now that's a PITA!!! It's on a rock that I can't take out, upside down facing the SB. When I try to shoot some Aiptasia-X into it it just falls to the SB.:mad2:

I love my peppermint shrimp, never see it, but 1 day after adding it, no visible aiptasia.

Boiling RO and a turkey baster is a good natural solution.
First switch off your pumps.
Give the pest a good blast with the baster (leaving the rubber bulb compressed while the pest shrivels and starts to break up, then loosen your grip on the bulb so it sucks up the remains).

Any chance parts of the remains can come back into the tank? Wouldent want an outbreak!

Put the shrimp in.. so far he has took the one right at the top of my live rock out, hes walked onto another one but hasnt yet ate it, do they normaly take a few days? Ive recognise him do it twice now, takes a dig at it and then runs off once it retracts its tenticals

With peppermints, I think it is best to have multiple so there is competition for the aiptasia. With competition, they will gobble it right up. With only a single one, they will take their sweet time and do whatever. Getting one is kind of a shot in the dark.

I'd say if you saw it eat one, you're good. I've never actually seen mine eat any. But they are gone. An animal can only eat so much at a time remember. It may be full from one. It could eat more later when it is hungry again.

My tank is only 90 litres (around 20gal) so theres not much room.. still ok for two you think?
