I am aware ineed a booster pump now! Is it normal for my 5 micron sed filter to be burnt orange after filling my 75 an 30 gal. sump? Is this due to pressure problems?
Sorry Pauley. Are you saying that it turns burnt orange after 105 (75 + 30) gallons? That seems a little soon but I know my sediment filter turns color pretty quickly on my BRS system. I pretty much ignore it and look for a pressure drop to determine when to replace the sediment filter.
ahh so thanx alot. Gona order the booster pump and see if it helps. My DI turned brown at about the bottom 1/4 in after about 100 gallons. Does the permeate pump sovle low pressure problems? Help at all or is there another use for it?
A pump will help with low pressure. BTW, what pressure are you getting? It's best to check at the input to the RO membrame. As far as DI goes I don't think using a 1/4 in 100 gallons is necessarily that bad. It all depends on your water source. If you have a high level of TDS in your supply you'll have greater TDS out of the RO membrame and go through DI quicker.
incoming is 175 TDS via BRS handheld, exact pressure is unknown but, pretty sure it isnt very high....allthough product to waste ration was about right as the BRS says...around 3 to one. As for iron piping, YES. house is PVC and copper, but the main lines are iron piping.
Many of BRS's systems come with pressure gauges. It wouldn't be a bad idea to pick one up. They're very useful at diagnosing issues.... such as this one. If you're getting a 3:1 waste to product ratio I'd say there is a good chance you have sufficient pressure.
will order pressure gauges with the booster. My DI filter at any given time has only about 2-3 inches of water outside the resin filter. I know it may have some air but shouldnt the filter be almost full.
Thanx! I love this site! No one should ever have a question or a problem go unanswered. The knowledge is great! As this is my forst RO my knowledge of it isnt great, but now i am assuming everything is in working order. Gonna order the gauges first, then if i need the pump i will get it. Thanx again.

I think that's wise. I purchased the 150 gallon/day upgrade from BRS. They say I need at least 65 psi. However with only 50 psi I'm getting waste to product ratio of 1.6:1 and producing 100 gpd. I know both numbers would improve if I got the pump, but the numbers I'm getting are good enough for my use and it saves me the cost of purchasing & running the pump.
BTW, the folks at BRS are very good. They didn't push the sale. Instead they recommended I give it a shot and ONLY purchase the pump if necessary.
