Brs video on black box

Taken with my cell , stuff deep in tank do not capture well on my phone, there is a good variety there , I recently changed out my t5s and got some tip burn, another benefit of all leds. I am finally happy with combo, a lot of sps and acro frags in this tank im slowly transforming it into acro and sps dominant, so there's a bunch of frags, one of my favourites came from petco, it was brown but growing in there tank , must been there 3 months and it went on sale, so I snatched it up, it grows like crazy and is all purple now..I can't take pictures that represents how well the tank looks

With everything else that's been said here, I just want to ask that you stop condoning a very unsafe practice. Using sugar sand in a blaster creates silica dust, which requires specialized filtration to remove, otherwise risking silicosis- aka miner's lung. Coal slag would be a much safer alternative...

I on the other hand have glass lenses, and my lights are neither black box nor Radions, so I guess I don't have a dog in the fight.

I own a large industrial sandblasting facility on the gulf coast, all my sandblasters and my self have a fresh air hood and proper gear, the point of the post is a five dollar piece of sandblasted plastic improves the bb to a level that same or higher considering the testing parameters of brs against the high dollar fixtures, no one was harmed in making these covers, I again , will blast free for anyone , even if it's a diy fixture, I'm not marketing bb , I'm simply offering free services for rc members, everyone can try there own design, I'm a diy type of guy , I could easily buy the best most expensive of everything out there , but for me thats not learning the hobby, I also do not test water ever, I have bought a triton test kit , never used it yet, I own all the testing equipment, its not laziness it's being able to look at your tank and know whats wrong, I learned long time ago testing is just confirming what I already know..same as lightning, thats why I started the post , I still feel brs was out of line..

I would consider trying to modify my lights, but they aren't the typical BB lights... I don't even know what they're attempting to knock off... but they have a controller with WiFi integration, no idea if they'd work with an APEX 'cause I don't have one lol...

Great picture Murphy and nice looking tank! But once again it proves what BRS said and what I encountered, most BB lights light up what is right under the light as shown in your picture. If you added one more it would light up the dark edges.

Thanks, that's an old picture, the newer pics I need to resize; but it actually does light all the way across, it's just the overflows that give the illusion of darkness. You can see the light on the top of the powerheads.

Tried to slog my way through this thread .... Finally gave up, all the bad English giving me a headache. Not entirely sure of the point (points?) Kenath Wulf is trying to make, but I would say this ..... I have played around with a number of different LED fixtures, from eBay 'black boxes' at the low end, through ReefBreeders, to Kessil and Radion at the high end. Much of the price premium comes in the way of features. The Radion Gen4 Pro is a far more sophisticated light than a black box, but does it grow corals any better? My subjective opinion is that it does, though not by as much as people might assume based on the price difference. I like the controllability and sophistication that the Radions offer, so they ARE worth it to me over a utilitarian black box; just as the vortech pumps are worth it to me over something like a jebao. That others have different opinions and make different choices invalidates nether alternative.

Another grammar Nazi, apparently wants to rub me with direct misspelling my name, jfys. Did ya look at apex graph, if you did you would see it's as sophisticated as anything else, I could be as uniformed as you, but my grammar and spelling keeps me from it, what a *******.

An entirely predicable response (with a lack of a sense of humor apparently) ..... and it's 'an *******' .....

*predictable.

(I can be a grammar Nazi too!)

.... on purpose .... trying (though perhaps failing) to be funny ..... and that's spelling (or typing) not grammer. I'm good at grammer but SUCK at typing.

Seeee......

Anyhow, the BB versus 'luxury' lighting is a good debate and I completely understand why folks might choose to NOT spend ridiculous amounts of $$ on something like the Radion. Far better to spend even more ridiculous amounts on 'rare' cornbred rainbow frags.

Yeah, I caught the misspelling of "grammar," since you spelled it correctly in an earlier post.

...but you are correct, it's mechanics; not grammar... but in all, it's just semantics.

I'm personally a somewhat budget-minded reefer. I won't buy the $80 BB's, just because I don't have a canopy, and I like the aesthetics of the lights I ended up with, even though the price breakdown is similar to the BB's.

I also don't pay more than $15/frag for any coral, but that could be due to having quite a few friends in the hobby that just like sharing.

The $1,000 mushroom fad is madness.

Good summary for not having read some of the thread. Didn't get you're humour, but no biggie. :)

Kenneth, relax dude. Most don't care about the grammar/spelling and you will always get people who do not appreciate your point of view. Also :) (and I can't spell worth a damn either)

I think this is a good topic, particularly for those new to the hobby, so that they know there are choices and trade-offs.
