bryopsis algae Nooooooooo

I try to keep things quiet and stable in my tank I very rearely add anything new to my tank and I have been having the same fish for 2 years. For the last 3 months I have been fighting and fighting and fighting what I think is bryopsis algae.
My problem started because my daughter was extra sensitive to My OZONE reactor and after 12 doctor visits for migranes and numerous MRI I found the problem myself. well Now that the Ozozne is no more this problem surface.
I will take a picture of it later today. it grows so fast that when i remove it from a rock 2 or 3 days later its back just as thick. I am so fustrated. I do have all my parameters and they are good except nitrates and im trying unsuccessfully to get them down. I am dosing with vodka now and have been raising the amount every week for the past 3 months. I am up to 12cc a day and its not working to bring down my nitrates. I feed everyother day by hand just enouph for them to eat. I have reduced my light cycle to 7 hours daylight 12 antics (t5's) my magnesium level is 1550 but i didnt use kent M to raise levels

My current plan of action
1) Add more cleanup crew . never had a sandsifting star so i might try .
2)My sand bed is 2 years old might consider replacing my sandbed(shallow)
3) I use to run a gfo reactor but I havent in some time


I am open to any sudjestions and help. What is the best way to replace a sandbed. I know dont do it all at once.

On a good note my corals are doing really really good great color super polip extension and growth. As long as i keep the bryiopsis off them. Also it has choked out all my Aptasia yeahhhh i guess.

what kind of flow do you have in your tank? post some pictues of your tank and sump. That will help.

You could force another bacterial bloom and see if that will help. Thats wat i did to get rid of cyano in my tank. I used Seachem Reef Stability and Brightwell Aquatics MicroBacter7. Also Reef BioFuel instead of vodka.

You could also try AZ-NO3. Your tank will get really cloudy for a few days but all the bad bacteria should be dissolved and exported by your protein skimmer. Using AZ-NO3 caused a huge copepod explosion in my tank. Im not sure why but not a bad thing i guess.

A good protein skimmer is a must to remove the excess nutrients if you use the products mentioned above. Also a lot of CO2 is produced when using these products so good lighting is a must.

i have great flow my return is 1000 gph on a squid unit.I have 2 koralis3 one koralis 4 one koralis 2 and one extra pump that blows behind my rock wall in the rear of the tank that blows 900gph.
My skimmer is overrated for my tank 110g with 40 gallon sump. I have a ev240 skimmer. lights just came on so ill get a picture.
I am not much of a fan of adding chemicalls like az-no3 to my tank. would rather fix the source of the problem. Dont really know the concept of "bad bacteria" but I will research. Thanks I will look into these things
 
What he's referring to in general (albeit with commercial products) is vodka dosing, FWIW. :)

I know Michael had some luck (after fighting for a couple of years) with a tang finally taking to eating bryopsis, and then his other tangs followed suit FWIW. :)

maybe when my daughter goes to college i can start OZONE again and get rid of it. 3 years and counting
I know the pictures dont really show alot but I have been dilligent at scrubbing my rocks like crazy

my tomini tang eats any algee in the tank, hair, nori, coraline, cehato, everything! I am not sure if its a individual thing or a species thing
 
The pictures are very much unclear so I can't tell exactly what it is. From what I can tell is hair algae, until you get a better picture, that's all I can tell....Does it have a feathery appearance? Flow DOES NOT help with bryopsis problem!!!! Just pray it's not bryopsis cause it's a pain to fight. I had a Tomini Tang and it eats algae like mad. I lost it during my battle with bryopsis when I cut my feeding way down. Once the algae was gone, Tomini stopped accepting food from me and it starved to death and there was nothing I can do unless I remove over 100 lbs of rock work plus corals to try to catch him. It was very sad since I've had him for about 2 years. Another tang that's an algae eating machine is my Regal Tang, it devours bryopsis like no tomorrow!!!! Once you get one tang to eat it, the rest follows....My spoiled Naso ate bryopsis too, but he rather eat what I feed him. He would rather starve. He only ate it because it was peer pressure....lol

I might need to set up my quarantine and get a tomini.
I hate the situation of quarintine. I am Ick free and when I quarintine I think my tomini will get adjusted to marine one and not want to eat anything else
 
What i meant by bad bacteria is basically unwated bacteria.

AZ-NO3 actually has Enzymes in it that will help process excess nutrients. I think of it as a natural solution.

Do you know what could be leaching phosphates into your system?

What you need to do is control nutrients! Your lucky that's not bryopsis, but they do have a cousin that's just as bad. Very similar to hair algae and it can clog up your system just like bryopsis can. I can't think of the name of it right now, but it'll come to me later. It's late at night and I'm fighting a toe infection, can't think right...lol
 
During quarantine, try taking one of the rocks covered in algae and adding it to the Tomini tank. This should get the fish used to eating the algae without causing to much shock.

I feel ya man... I was AWESOME on guitar... I've played for 12 years or so... but I got a toe infection once that just completely ruined my chances of arpeggio runs and sweeps. Now I just strum chords from time to time. :(
