Bryopsis overtaking tank

So you are doing 1ml per 10gallon a day and that help get it controlled?. I am thinking of taking all my rocks out to dip them but man removing 200+ lbs will be crazy and my tank eill definitly take a nose dive with the die offs. That still won't get the bryopsis on thebwalls and sand bed.

The dosing helped with things in the water column and to stop other areas taking hold but I still needed the spot paste treatment to really eradicate the grown areas.

Dosing only typically only work with weaker algaes like GHA. For stronger items like culpera and bryopsis you need to also dip or spot treat to gain an advantage. Again I only spot treated once a week during my water change and dosed daily remainder of week.

Peroxide worked great for me too years ago on BigB. I did some out of tank spot treatments then some full tank treatments. Be sure to remove what you can by hand and siphon up any sludge & debris during water changes. I ran some mechanical filtration during my efforts & found that helpful. It pulls off rock & sand easily.

Finally, keep nutrients low or it may return. I installed a GFO reactor before doing the peroxide treatments. It kept it from returning until I slacked off on changing the media, and a little bit of it started to come back. The peroxide plus nutrient control will work on all soft bodied green algae. I would read the threads on this before proceeding. Corals & fish took it well but shrimp can be harmed if you over do it. I would take them out during treatment just to be safe.

Yes it is recommended that shrimp and a few other things be removed though I had everythign in my tank from a cleaner shrimp to clams to sps and all were fine. If you decide to dose more then 1 ml per 10 gal though I would caution you to remove sensitive items.

I started to run GFO at the same time as dosing like frog above. I also dosed no pox for a bit to ensure I had no nutrients or was binding/pulling out as much as possible.

At last a fellow byropsis battler ! For me i tried a lot of different thing and final used lettuice slugs, fantastic, they ate every bit of the stuff and look great in the process. I added 8 to my tank in total and in a month it was gone, I also added 2 sea hares as I was told they may eat it to the root, not sure about this but I am roughly about 2 months byropsis free now.

Can you guys point me to the peroxide thread? i need to read up before i start dosing my tank and killing everything :)

Tech m worked wonders for my tank, spiking the dosage seemed to be the key for me. I tried peroxide, both in tank spot treatments, dunking rocks in it, and full tank treatments, i was up to almost 1ml per gallon, nothing happened. i've been bryopsis free for i think 3 months now.

i have my tech-m at 2200 now it's not killign these buggers. I need to figure out an alternative.

Tech M only worked for me once I Stopped my carbon reactor and started dosing twice the recommended dose daily. 2 weeks later its all gone.

So far with my Tech M treatment (on Day 13), my Bryopsis is about 95% gone. There are still roots sticking out here and there so I plan to keep it at +/-2000ppm for a while. The interesting thing is that my corals seriously look better than ever. They have the best color I've seen and are growing faster than ever. Anyone know the affects of running at 2000ppm long term?

A couple things I've noticed while dosing:

When I started dosing, the first 4-5 days, my corals stopped consuming Alk altogether causing my Alk to go up. Then at about day 6-7, they started consuming again. Perhaps getting used to the elevated Mag?

Tech M has A LOT of salt in it. I'm used to BRS Mag which doesn't cause any noticeable change in Salinity. Once I reached 2000ppm I was doing a random salinity check and found that I jumped from 1.0264 to 1.0268! It took several sessions of removing a couple gallons, re-dosing, re-checking etc. to get me back to 2000ppm and a salinity of 1.0264.

So don't forget to check Alk and Salinity each day when dosing Tech M.

I'm running both Rox 0.8 Carbon and HC GFO reactors while dosing. I was previously running Carbon so no real change there, but I did add the GFO. I'm running the BRS suggested amount for GFO and half the BRS suggested amount for Carbon.

Last test of Phosphate/Nitrate on Saturday was 0.003/2.5 so running very low nutrients. This may also be contributing to the Bryopsis die off?

i raised mag 100ppm per day for 3-4 days straight, did a few maintenance doses for a 4 or so days, and did another 2 days raising it 100ppm. If you go slowly i don't think it will work, i think whatever is in the mag solution that kills it dissipates over time and the spike is what does the trick on the bryopsis. i raised it by 100ppm each day with 4 doses in the morning spread out 30 minutes apart.

Glad to hear its starting to work out for you. Im about to retreat my tank with tech m because I think I stopped dosing too soon and the bryopsis came back. My rics and scoly took a beating with the tech m dosing though. Some of the rics bleached out and the scoly's colors faded.

I dosed till it was gone. You can increased the ml per 10/gal as others have but be careful if you have shrimp and clams. I kept my dosing at 1 ml/10gal but also supplimented with peroxide paste to hit trouble areas and nuke them.

Lost my battle the dosing didn't work. Taking down the tank and bleaching all the rocks. On the bright side wife ok a be tank with 3 side starfire and coast to coast overflow. Happy 40th to me. :)
