I bought a bta from the lfs about a week ago it was stuck to a rock so i bougt the rock too. It was eating a coral banded shrimp so I new it was healthy. I added it to my tank he climbed off his rock and into a crevice on mine. Now at night time it hides some of it tentacles and makes the rest longer. During the day it makes huge bulbs and twice as many tentacles but they are alot shorter. I fed it two days ago and it ate a piece of shrimp he ate it. I tested my water quality it seems to be all correct Please help!!!!

Big Rims--I am brand new to BTA husbandry myself, and have lots of questions, despite having read a fair amount (4 or 5 books and several hundered posts) before taking the plunge. So, take my thoughts with a big grain of salt.

To me, it sounds pretty normal. Several people have commented that BTA's can go into a darker place than "normal" during the first few days, and "normally" I believe they like to keep their foot/column in a deep hole or crevice, so that part seems fine. I also have heard that BTA that are reasonably fed and happy tend to have shorter, fatter and (maybe) more bubble tipped tentacles. When they are hungry is when they tend to streatch out the tents and do more "sweeping" of the area. So, maybe your BTA is just feeding/trying to feed at night (a good time to catch unwary fish, I would imagine), and is feeling pretty happy during the day. Since it is eating, and your water quality is good, I am not sure you have a problem. But, I am new as green grass. Hopefully you will get more help from the better informed.

My experience has been similar to monicaswizzle. My RBTA hid for the fiirst 2 days, almost completely in a cave. By day 3 it was out in the light. After feeding, its tentacles seem thicker.
