BTA anemone problems

I had a small green that lasted for a few months, afterwards waited a while and replaced with rbta.. It was doing great and then all the sudden started declining and now it's disappeared. I have a mixed reef with sps, lps and softies. 20g with 150w mh.. someone said too much light? It was in the corner out of high flow area, had shade if it wanted it. Same place as gbta.. Fed both mysis.. both seemed to be doing well until they weren't.. no issues with other coral so don't think it's a parameter issue.. I've kept LTA and other anemones in the past, (different tank) and never had any issues.. what gives?

Sounds like your tank can support them water wise but 150 watt MH on a 20G is a bit much IMO. I've had condy's in my tank that did wonderfully but my GBTA is a bit more finicky. I think it's just the way BTA's are, finicky :).

Would love a concrete answer, had the same thing going on in my tank. 25g with 24x3w LED fixture. Anemone was fine for about 2 weeks then started going down hill. All the params I can test are fine, it was eating regularly then just decided to quit living.

Only thought is that 1) something was eating it (a crab maybe? 2) too much light?.. which is annoying because I bought LED lights basically so I could have a BTA down the road.

I posted a big thread and did not get much feedback but mine was a similar situation, it moved into an area of rock and about half the nem was hidden from light. Over the weekend I finally lifted up the rock, gently removed it and placed it on a rock low in the tank. It took to the rock, moved over night into a hole and has pretty much fully retracted into the hole with no tentacles coming out. Going to have to go pry it off and throw it out before it goes nuclear... but really annoyed because I have no idea what happened so I cannot get a replacement.

I don't know if this helps ya, or not. I just added my bta about 3 weeks ago, and it took to my tank with no issues at all. I placed him in on a rock and has not moved since. Does the usual , shrinks up at night ,and comes back beautiful and big when the lights come back on.

Now the story of my new 40 breeder. My old tank was a 20 and was up and established for 7 months, I transfered everything over to the new 40b ,sand and all plus added 15 lbs of live rock, and 35 lbs of more live carib sand. light was a aquatic life t5 4bulb. I had to mod the light so I could use it on the 40b with some alum bars. but it does pretty much sit on top of the water. so I was worried about light . my zoas, toadstool, gsp, brain, elegance, birdnest. have all done good so far. I placed the bta in the new tank about 1.5 months after the swap. and like I said he is doing great and very happy. light bulbs are giesmann 2 blue actinic, 1 10k , 1 pure actinic....So like I said I don't know if this helps ya or not. tank levels - sal 1.025 , ph 8.2, amm/nitrite/nitrate 0ppm. I change 5 gal water every week. I stay on top of every thing every day, and test levels every other day to make sure no spikes. I do run a heavy bioload.
yellowhead goby, 2 os clowns, blue spotted toby puffer, and misc cuc.
