BTA damaged foot, will it heal?

as the subject states if a BTA has a damaged foot will it heal? How long will it usually take if so.

It should heal as long as the injury isn't large enough to be lethal or becomes infected. Keep your water parameters spot on and it should be fine. People propagate BTAs all the time by cutting them in half. This obviously requires an injury to the foot to do so. The length of time it takes to heal depends on the size of the wound but usually by a week or two.

I purchased an RBTA about 3 weeks ago from an LFS. He popped it off the rock so quickly I suspected trouble but didn't say anything. When I got home it expanded quickly but the tear on the foot was severe. I'm glad to say it now appears to be fully healed and the nem is doing great.

thanks for the replies. Yeah my LFS gave me a BTA from their display tank but damaged the foot getting it off the LR. It is holding on with a small portion of its foot in my DT. Hope it heals, it is a browny/reddish colour with orange tips.

That is why if you can, it is best to buy the rock it's attached to. Sad to hear these stories. I second the advice given. I just heard that someone on another forum just lost his to a tear on the foot. Good luck.

I had a red BTA that was attached to 2 rocks. My Pistol shrimp dug a hole, the rocks shifted, and the foot on the BTA tore 1/2 way up the column. The BED withdrew and I was sure it would die. It split into two and now I have 2 healthy RBTAs about 6" across. So, all is not lost with a tear. Infection, or the lack of, is probably a significant issue with post-tear survival.
