The wierdest thing happened yesturday...I've never seen this before, actually I have but it usually means "death"

My BTA was 6 in. when I got it 5 days ago. When I came home from work yesturday it was literally down to 2 in. and turning inside out. Tenacles were barely visable. When I tried to take it out of the tank, my blk clown tried to fight me (defending his space I guess) would not let me close to the anemone...I guess he knew something I didn't...Anyways, I dosed it with trace elements and 2x coral vital stuff to see if it would help...*seriously this anemone looked like a dried PRUNE*

This morning...it suddenly was striving again...to about 4 maybe 5 in. with the tenacles out like nothing happened. The Clown just stuffed himself in the anemone *looks like all night* and either the supplements helps or the clown just gave it the will to live...
If the BTA was just puking out his water/waste, it looked really bad where I've never seen it like this unless it was dying or pretty much dead...

I can never understand these creatures...lol

How long have you had the anemone? It was probably just purging itself of old dirty water. They look pretty horrific sometimes, unless they look like they're turned inside out (which happens fairly quickly in the grand scheme of how anemones move and react to things) I wouldn't worry about it.

I just got it 5 days ago...It was doing great until yesturday...How it looked "horrific" would be to good of a description..lol

It was literally turned inside out...

It was purging, guaranteed. It will do that to acclimate as well as when you do water changes, after it eats, and any other time it accumulates "waste" water that it doesn't actually release from its oral disc.

Wouldn't worry, BTA's will do that for a little bit until adjusted to the tank could take upwards of a month before thing are back to normal they will look good then look like they are dying, be patient and good luck.

lol...so when they are purging they shrink and look dead? In the past I never saw that in my other BTAs...learn something new...So the only way to find out if they aren't purging, is one day I just can't find them anymore? lol

You can usually see a slimy substance coming out of its mouth - this is one of the things it purges. If you have a clown hosting in it, the clown will actually help it by picking the stuff out of its mouth. Pretty neat.

yeah, all good. They will do this from time to time. I have heard of people who are on real consistant schedules with feeding and etc say they will do it at real consistant times. Its when the tissue starts to disentigrate that you have a problem.
