BTA Feedings How Often?

Just wonder what and how often you feed your BTA's. Mine was doing great taking food and looking amazing. He moved into a cave where the light is completely blocked since the move he hasnt opened up fully or taken any food. Any ideas? I think my marroon is being to rough on it and she pulls food out of its mouth!:mad2:

feed mine daily to every other day. i usually wait till it poops before feeding it again. it likes silversides (i like to break em in half before i thaw them) and table shrimp cut to smaller pieces. i havent had to deal with a rough clown, since my clowns wont have anything to do with it.

Maroon clowns are notorious for roughing up on their anemone. How big is your BTA in diameter? That could be a reason why it walked on you in the first place.

Thanks guido I have heard of people feeding them only once a month! I don't know how they keep them alive with such spread out feedings.

Anemones get their primary energy from the nutrients produced by the zooxanthellae algae that lives within their tissue. It's a mutualistic relationship between the anemone and zooxanthellae algae.

if the anemonne was OK eating, and sudently just closed. there is a posibility than she is trying to split. (reproduce)

Like I say it might be a posibility.

I dont think that is the reason. She looks crappy not like she is splitting. Thanks though aaron

how long you had it?
if you've had it for a short time, maybe its not acclimated to the lighting. the fact you mentioned the clown was roughing it up, though, makes me agree with 55semi. the maroons are a rough bunch. is the clown alot larger than the nem? just a couple more things to consider.

OT: i see people posting that they rarely/never feed their nems. i guess i could space my feedings out more to every 3 days or so. but it just greedily grabs whatever i give it, i guess i would feel guilty by not feeding it as often. :( its such a simple creature by design. not much self-regulation, its at the mercy of the environment i provide. so i try my best to keep it :D

My maroon was very rough on my RBTA. So I purchased a second GBTA to give the first one a break ... Plan didn't work. The RBTA died ! Now my pair of maroons host the GBTA. I think the rose was just too small.

I haven't had this anem for too long maybe 2 months. When purchased it was much larger then the clown. Last night I put it into a container to keep the clowns from getting to it so we will see how that works. Thanks for your help!

i feed mine every day, until i forget, then i feed it when i remember.

the number one rule is consisitency (and i'm consistently messed up!!!)

HOWEVER mine has a GSM that feeds it cyclopeeze, flakes, chunks of homemade and then i feed him homemade chunks and silversides.

since i got it in october, it has not only tripled in size, it has split.

and now the clone is growing...

i run 175w MH 20,000k 9" over the tank, and he is about 8" below the surface (the top of his tentacles).

i'm also missing four shrimp and three crabs.
