My experience:
I had a pair of occelaris that took a few months to settle into a BTA. They were in there for a year or so afterwards. I had to pull everything out to redo some stuff in the tank. The occelaris were out for about a week. When the pair was reintroduced to the same BTA in the same tank, they never went back to it and ended up hosted next to a powerhead.
A year later, I move the clowns to the wife's tanks and I added a pair of barberi clowns and the next morning they are in the BTA.
