BTA Lost its Bubble tips

Sorry, Spongebob- lots of theories abound but I don't believe anyone really knows why this happens. It's pretty common among captive BTA's.
nobody knows exactly why
some say it is due to lack of clowns - which i don't subscribe to
some say it is due to flow or lightings - possible
some say it is due to food - possible
some say it is due to salt - someone used kent then switch to IO only to lose the tips then use back kent salt only to regain.
sometimes the bta has some tips and the rest none- how to explain that?
