my LFS said the other three ends of this frag that has one living BTA on it will eventually produce more BTA's

he said the ridged trumpet shaped extensions are actually an anenome forming it's own exoskeleton and they will come out of those other three tops eventually

is the anenome animal itself actually deep down inside these "trumpets" or does this piece of rock have actually nothing to do with the anenome itself, is it simply the rock the anenome chose to be home?

it's a frag off of one of their display tank anenome's, very nice, picked up for $23, seemed ok to me

also, is direct feeding of the anenome crucial or should i let mother nature take it's course and let it catch what it can and feed off the light itself mostly (150W MH about 12-15" from anenome)? seems to be alot of conflicting info on the subject of feeding anenomes

Looks like a 5 headed torch coral with 3 dead heads. I do not see anything that looks like a BTA on the dead skeleton.

If the LFS sold you that as a BTA, you need to not shop there anymore.

FWIW, if the 2 heads survive, then you got a nice piece of Torch for a decent price though.

Yep, it's a torch coral, Euphyllia glabrescens.

And Euphyllia corals can sometimes have new growth sprout from seemingly dead skeleton - not very often, but it can happen. Also, the living portion splits as it grows and you can end up with more "heads" after a period of time (how much time would depend upon the growing conditions, but in any case, we're talking months at least).

FWIW,
Kevin

the color isnt coming through too well in the pictures, but is that not clearly a Green tipped BTA on top of one of the corals heads? .....or is that the actual living part of the torch coral itself?......now i am confused.......the bubble tips are neon green when viewed with the eyes, and it deflates and retracts on occasion, usually when light changes suddenly

after a little more research, it does appear that what looked like a Green tipped BTA to me is actually not at all, like you said, it is a Torch Coral..........nice..........i was completely misled or allowed to be mislead by a guy that could have said "i am not sure what that is", that would have been better, i likely would still have gotten it, but at least i would know what it is rather than being deceived unintentionally
