BTA water levels

would alk, calcium and phosphate affect a BTA what would be the maximum levels of these that they would take

if they are "off" then they definitely could cause problems. All should be in line with standard reef params:

alk: 7-12 dkh
cal: 350-450
po4: 0

would 0.5 po4 affect it

It is possible that your po reading could be affecting it. If you have any sps in your tank, I believe you would first see stress among them before seeing any effects upon the bta.
