i have a friend that got a BTA about 2-3 weeks ago... since he has had the BTA it has pretty much been rejecting food... he trys to feed it raw peices of Jumbo Shrimp... is there anything that might help the lil feller gain his apatite back... this BTA is in the same tank that the Clarkii clown was in that contracted Brook and died :rolleye1:
thx much

Don't feed it such large food. Try Mysis or brine, and break them up into small pieces. Turn the flow off and let the food settle down on the BTA. It should eat something.

What are the conditions of the tank that it is in?

conditions are good... water quaulity is good.... lighting is fair... 72watt PC over a 17 gallon... BTA is about size of a orange cut in half.

Do you have a pic so we can see what shape it's in? What's the temp and salinity in the tank? Other params would be nice.

Looks bleached. You should only feed it brine or mysis shrimp. Just squirt some at it and see if it takes it, if not waite a cople of days and try again.

Damn that thing is bleeched!

If it doesnt have sticky tentacles it will be hard to feed. You'll need to get a small piece of shrimp and hold it into its mouth, but its really hard to resurect anemones after they have lost their zooxanthallae.

I wouldnt put an anemone in a tank with PC's 60g or bigger.

I actually have had BTA's in a 40g with 96w PC's for 5 yrs. I since gave them away 2 yrs ago except for one. The one I have now just recently moved into my new tank with MH.

Then lighting isnt an issue.

Its really hard to keep an anemone in a nano unless its a mature reef /or plumbed to a larger system.

salt-e I'd give it some time to regain it's zooanthellae before feeding it anything. Also, was it that bleached the day it was brought home? Has it moved around at all? Is it in a place where it's being blasted by current?

only one small power head in the tank.... not hitting the fella... he has looked that same way since day one... and he has also done his share of moving around in the tank... he has been in this same spot for about 1 week now.

I'd let it ride another week or two for it to brown up. You can try target feeding it some flake using a turkey baster soaked in Selcon (optional) and see if it takes. If it can't even grab flake, then it's just going to be a waiting game.

try putting it somewhere with minimal flow and no chance of other fish trying to steal the food out of its mouth. When i fed my weak GBTA, it took four hours for it to eat all the food. The next day, it took about 2 hours. Just keep feeding it every other day or a few times a week until it gets healthy again. Put the food right in the middle of its mouth
