my bta just took a big poop and is now all shriveled up to nothing.this common?

4 bulb t5's
20 gallon fuge
20 gallon sump

nitrates 0
nitrites 0
ammonia 0

light bio load,mostly mushrooms,small bubble coral,zenia coral star polyps

large serpent star,big as a dinner plate hes hiding
right behind the bta in the rocks.think he may be bothering the bta?
 
yep, its normal. theyll be shriveled up for a bit after pooping then go back to normal. just watch out if it stays shriveled or mouth is gaping.
 
ok,thx..it just looks weird and i didn't want to come home from work tomorrow to a dead tank...i have seen what happens when one dies,it aint pretty
 
Yes, perfectly normal as others have said. Deflating is not as much as a concern with BTA as it is for other anemone species ime. Mine deflate a few times a week especially if I feed heavy.
 
Mine usually deflates and purges like that for a few hours about 24 hours after I feed it. It's mouth is typically very open and who knows what comes out, it sure doesn't look like what went in. I feed my BTA every 4-5 days, if it is not hungry it won't be sticky and will drop the food or spit it back put. My serpant star used to try to steal food, but was always very careful not to touch the tentacles, it is being hosted by a clownfish that does not allow that to happen now, I also feed the star first and the BTA last.
