Just got a BTA for the first time. It has been in the tank for about 3 hours. I am just wondering if my clowns will find it on their own and host it or do I have to get them close enough so they go into it?

You can try to put the fish and nem in a small breeding box to encourage touching each other (not too small though). I have never tried to force the relationship because when it naturally happens, it is such a nice surprise! Good luck!

Mine took a couple weeks to find it and start to host. Let them find it on their own.

They will find it on their own, when they are ready to go in the bta, all mine took from a few hours to a couple months.

If they are paired up, they usually will stay in the same bta. if you have more then one bta they will move around but will tend to favor one that they always go back to. Atleast that is from my experience n observation.

My Ocellaris pair never took to the BTA. They enjoyed the front bottom corner of the tank where they laid eggs and defended the area. I tried moving the rock that the BTA was in, closer to the clowns corner, but the clowns attacked it and eventually killed it. Good luck.

I think my ocelarris and black and white snowflake have paired up already in less than a week. They sleep together last night and most of the time swim around together

I had multiple BTAs in the past.. My clarkii took it fast.. I've also had multiple ocellaris that ignored it completely. Hit or miss!

That's kind of what mine are doing right now.

I have been pretty lucky with all my clowns, you can always try putting the bta n clowns in an acclimation box if they r easy to catch, to get them to go into the bta.

It's only hit or miss when you don't pair clowns to what nems they would be found in the wild, otherwise hosting usually happens fairly quick if not immediately.
I would not advise forcing or too close of quarters, it could actually harm the clowns.

I had a BTA that my pair of ocellaris clowns ignored for months. The anemone moved onto a small rock one day, and I put that in a colander in the tank and added the fish.

I know some people really frown on this practice, and frankly, I don't get why. Your everyday colander is quite spacious, and is no more stressful than the entire capture/breeding/transport/shipping/pet store chain of events. (Although yes, I do want to make my fish's lives as comfortable as possible once they're in my care.) My clowns had zero problems getting around that colander without touching the anemone. They did warm up to the anemone. After several days, I put everyone back into the tank.

The anemone eventually split in two, and each clown sleeps in their own anemone at night. My clowns tend to prefer swimming out in the open during the day, although they occasionally hang out in the larger anemone. It seems like they just prefer being out and about, because they don't guard a specific rock/corner, either.

The reason people frown on this practice is because clowns usually need to adapt to that nems sting cells, and while many like to preach this method because, "it worked for them that one time", it does not always go that way, and you could potentially harm or kill your clowns.
I would suggest first try to match to a natural host, and if you can't or did not do that, exercise patience.
Usually a clown will eventually discover and accept even a non natural, happens all the time, it just can take a while, while a natural match is pretty much almost immediate most every time.

If your using a good size colander, the clowns have good amount of room for them to swim around without just throwing them straight into the Bta.
