I have a BTA that is host to one clown but he doesn't seem to ever get the bubble tips anymore. Is there something that I might be doing wrong or something that I could do or does it all just depend on the BTA>

It is not fully understood why BTAs sometimes loose their bubbles in captivity. It is not a health issue.

To add to what red said... back in the day I had 2 BTAs in my 58 (clones of each other), one had tips, the other didn't. Both were close enough to eac other that there was no difference in light/flow/etc.
