Same here...emerald crabs had my tank virtually valonia-free within a matter of weeks. I still have to pick out a couple of big ones every now and then, but they seem to take care of the small bubbles hidden in crevices where I can't reach.
Popping them is a bad idea. I don't think the small ones - smaller then a pea - release spores though. Either way, I try my best not to pop any of them, regardless of size. Emeralds, in my experience, won't go after the big ones; I still have to remove them by hand.
