Bubble Coral

I have this large bubble coral that has not been expanding as usual. Only about half. We have other LPS that look fine. Its only been for a day or two. Any thoughts? dKH was high like 11/12. No additives. Thinking of doing a bunch of tests.

It might just be adjusting, some coral takes a while though, just curious where is it located in the tank because I find Lps adapt better in the sand bed and than getting slowly moved up

I've had three large bubble corals in my tank doing well for a good while. One of them one day didn't open as much. With a turkey blaster I slowly squirted some water inspecting it and noticed it had a corner with tissue infected. From then I got worse and the same thing happened to the second bubble coral. To prevent it from happening to the third big piece, I dipped it in iodine and it has been fine for about two months now.
My experience is these corals can be susceptible to bacterial infections more often(all other LPS fine in the tank for about a year). I'm not sure if in my tank something bothered it and made it more susceptible to the infection?
I wouldn't just wait though because bacterial infections in fleshy corals move on really fast.
Funny thing is one day they were huge, open and the next day almost all closed. Would you have any inverts that could be picking on it? I have emerald crabs that I see picking around from time to time...

I haven't noticed any infection and no inverts here. This bubble has a very aggressive feeding response usually. We've had bubbles before and they can fade fast. I'm going to target feed it a little more, check lighting, and do a few tests. Could be low Mg, CA, NO3, or PO4 levels. Usually they're stable, but you never know.

Well, I've found a few interesting things. My CA was way low. Usually 450/500 now around 300. My PO4 was a little high .10. My NO3 is generally 12.5/25. Today it was 2. Also a couple of T5's were old. I had all my values checked by my LFS. They use the same tests. So LPS like the water a little dirty and my SW is a little too clean in their opinion. I've never seen a nitrate reading that low on this system. Go figure.

make sure u bring ur chemistry back up slowly, shocking the system wont help, and I agree with other posts, dipping is great idea. I keep lps happy with 2-5 ppm cant imagine that being a problem compared to other things mentioned

i have had one for almost 15 years. They like dirty water more but sudden changes can make them react weird. I have never had a bacterial problem with it and have had some bad water in the past. They are quite hardy and hard to kill. CA 300 is not good. stability is the key to all corals.

Yes, this sudden drop in CA is not normal. I've been keeping different hours and it all got away from me. Thanks for the input.

UPDATE! It did seem odd that the CA was so off. My kit was old so when I got a low reading it was off to the LFS. Their reading was low, suggested a few dosings 48 hours apart. The owner is a friend of mine and he likes partials. So I had done one dose, so I did a small partial. Just to check, went back to LFS and another salesperson did the test. Now were at 500. I bought another kit and got a 500 a few days later. Probably was never very low. FYI
