That's weird. I clean my cup every week (BBK 180)
Since 2 weeks I'm making a test and I don't clean the cup - because it was never full in one week
I think you are very over the "water limit"
more you are upper water level and more it will skim

hi, 4 days is not even close to a full cup for my setting. the only reason i clean it that often is to get rid of the build up on the neck.
the discoloration is obviously not a problem. it was just an observation since i never had a skimmer with a cup made out of PVC instead of acrylic. i just wanted to make sure that it is normal and that there is nothing in my water that might degrade the equipment over time.

hello guys,
I am the happy owner of this skimmer which I think is fabulous. but I know it's too big for my tank. I'm using it for 4 months doing dry work. I only see some small clearing on 2 or 3 lps, sps's are fine. Lately I've been increasing the supply of both fish and corals to make water not too lean. I have all zero values. are willing to sell and to buy the skimz sk181. I know that there is no comparison between the two skimmers, what do you recommend? to sell it or keep it dry making it work?
If i sell it wich one you suggest to me?

Why do you want to sell a skimmer that is doing the job well?
Comparing a Bubble King with Skimz is just wrong....there is no comparison
In my personal opinion there is no reason to worry if your skimmer is bit over rated for the tank. It does give you freedom of feeding more and added stocking.
If you are still looking for a change,
the Bubble King can only be replaced with another Bubble King in my humble opinion.

Can someone please help with using Ozone and a BK180 mini internal Gen 1. Thers lots of information here but it is old and the images no longer work.
Is it safe to use ozone with this skimmer?
How do I connect it?
Do any parts need replacing?
Ive contacted Royal Exclusiv directly but they are on holiday and out the office till 23rd July.

The skimmer is as "ozone safe" as any skimmer can be. Having said that, I'd never run ozone into that expensive of a skimmer in my opinion. I'd buy an ozone reaction chamber such as what Coralvue sells here:

or go with a really cheap / small skimmer that is used for nothing more than injecting ozone into your system.
If you are dead set against using your BK just pull the venturi line off of the silencer and run make a Tee in it and run one of those open lines over to the generator and let it pull through it.

Great thread, do you guys have any idea what the the bubble king double cones max ozone rating per hour is,
tried searching web and couldn't find info anywhere, my instructions that came with it are in a foreign language, so they are no good
Which size BK cone are you looking at?

You should be able to pretty easily put 200mg/hr into that unit. Keep in mind though that you'll need to build some type of tray or something for the lid of the skimmer to hold some carbon. That way all of the air being released from the skimmer will go through that carbon and scrub off any ozone that is left.
