Bubble King Skimmer Club

9" shouldn't be too deep, but you can lower it if you want. That shouldn't have anything to do with an air pocket building up. Can you turn the skimmer off and remove the collection cup and get a top down photo looking down at the bubble plate please?

Hi Jeremy - appreciate the time - see if these pictures work

The issue you're experiencing with the burping is because the bubble plate cover is installed incorrectly. Loosen up the screw in that hold the plate cover down, then spin the bubble plate cover so that the outlet of the pump (black opening in the plate) is spraying / hitting right on the portion of the bubble plate cover that has no holes in it, then tighten it back down. This should solve your issue, HTH!

When you asked me to take pictures of the bubble plate, I started googling pictures of the plate and I kinda suspected this, seeing that all the pictures had the spray hitting the solid part of the plate.

I'll do as you recommend tonight, I'm sure this is the cause.

I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy day to help me out.

Much appreciated!

Anyone ever see or know someone who has a Royal Exclusiv Alpha Cone skimmer? I have a supermarin 300 internal for the 350, but would love a new skimmer for the FOWLER. Currently it has 2 Geo large recirculating skimmers working like mad on it. The Alpha 300 cone skimmer has awesome air and water stats, but I can't find any info on comparing them to anything really. Thanks!

Hello BK people!

I am on a search for a new skimmer for my aquarium. I have a 125 gallon display and a 35 gallon sump (total approx 160 gallon). The available area in my sump for a new skimmer is 21x24. The skimmer would operate in approximate 9.5" of water. I have about 900 gallons running through the sump and hour.

My tank is an SPS tank. I do have some LPS and Zoanthids but the majority of corals are SPS. Many of the SPS colonies are over 5 years old (2 are almost 8). I have a a medium fish load (10 small/med).

I have been running a WM K2 (Sicce PSK2500) for awhile. It has been adequate however, I would like to increase feedings and increase my bio-load.

I've looked at the Alpha 200/250 however, from previous skimmer experiences, skimmer ratings are sort of "loose".
Does BK play "loose" with their ratings?
Should I look at the Deluxe or Supermarin?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would suggest the following models for you:

Deluxe 200
Super Marin 200
Alpha 200
Mini 200

~OR~

New Omega 200 when it comes out....

If it were me I'd probably do the Super Marin 200 as my first choice, and the Deluxe 200 and Alpha 200 as a close second.

OK, just set up a Super Marin 200 on my 180, it's in about 10" water. The thing is going nuts and overflowing, I'm turning the tube and when it is turned to the right it is overflowing at a slower rate than turned to the left (why can't there be a manual to this thing?). What can I do to calm this thing down? Should I lower the level in my sump? What would be the optimum level for this skimmer?

OK, may have answered my own question, the water level rose when adding this beast and I lowered it a little and the bubble level went down (fingers crossed not overflowing). What is the optimum water height for this skimmer?

Try 8" of water. I've had an SM250 since they were released years back and it works wonders at that water level. You should be able to turn the volute on the pump itself, too, to control the amount of water being processed

edit: Here are some pics of when I first set up the skimmer:

Depending on whether your tank is just started new (as in just filled up with salt water) or has been running a while (already cycled and stocked) it can take few hours to few days for the skimmer to break in and get the skimmer dialed in.
During this period try not to fiddle with it just let it run :)
Once it gets settled in you should adjust the flow till you get a "foam cushion" without the collection up. Just posting a picture for reference of the foam cushion on my 180 mini BK when it was breaking in.

Good luck. Just be patient you have got a great skimmer which will do great things. :)

Thanks tbone, no it's an established tank, my lifereef SVS2-24 was getting too small for my tank when I plumbed another tank into my 180 so I swapped it out tonight (Christmas came early with UPS today :)).

hello everyone, I have a question (trival) about pronunciation. Considering the ruff german translation of the english language(BK web site), like Exclusiv (should be Exclusive) is Super Marin actually Super Marine. I know Jeremy pronounces it Super Marin (mar-n) but isn't it Marine? They left the "e" off exclusiv....did they do the same with marin (marine).

Interesting observation :D
Come to think of it should be "Bubbl" King and not Bubble King , right? :D
With or without the "e" BK will always be King

Wow, have an issue with phosphates (even with GFO) and after putting this skimmer on it dropped in half to 0.15 with the skimmer being on less than 48 hours and not even broken in yet! I think I'm sold :).

Hey guys I have a BK 200 Gen 1 and the pump took a crap on me. I am just wondering what the best pump might be for this unit. It currently has a Maxflo 1600 on it but, I am having problems finding another one of these pumps.

Thanks Guys any ideas are greatly welcomed!
