Supermarin 300

Supermarin 300

First off, which skimmer do you have? We need to know this to help you out. It sounds like a Deluxe since it has a telescoping wedge pipe. Second, we can get you dialed in on it but don't expect it to really do much at all right now since the tank is brand new and there is pretty much no load in there to create any organics for the skimmer to remove. Also, any photos you can post of the skimmer setup would be helpful for us to get you dialed in as well.
Hey Jeremy I was told it is a Supermarin 300. Any help would be great I just can't figure out how to lower the water level in the skimmer which is why I took the collection cup off. http://s154.photobucket.com/albums/s250/ohiostater86/Fish Tank/

Yes, that is a Super Marin 300. The wedge pipe does not go up and down on this unit, it only turns right and left. Make sure the red wedge pipe is pushed all the way down into the white tee so that it functions properly. There is also a nozzle adjuster on the venturi for your larger pump. You will want to turn this all the way into the right (closed position), and then open it up 1 1/4 turn out to the left. From there you will just adjust your wedge pipe to the desired operating height inside the skimmer body.

It appears the skimmer is probably currently overflowing when the cup is one. If that's the case then I'd suggest setting up as mentioned above, and then just letting it go until it's settled down. My guess is that the skimmer is reacting to something within the tank and it will go away in a few days.

Hi, it's very common for your skimmer to behave like that when using epoxy 2-part putty. Sometimes it can take hours for it to skim normally again. I usually shut my skimmer down for 4-5 hours when working with epoxy in the tank.

Also, double check the wedge pipe setting didn't shift allowing more water into the skimmer.

I do think it will settle down in a few more hours...

How long do you think it might take to operate normally?
I heard that it might take 3-4 days, I'm noticing the sand turning brown now it used to be white.

Check what on the wedge pipe?

Thanks.

Conrad when my skimmer not BK was constantly overflowing I would just remove the lid so I could run the skimmer and not have it overflow it might work on yours.

Depends on how much epoxy you use on how long it will take to settle back down. It could be a few hours, or it could be a few days. Your sand is not turning brown because your skimmer hasn't skimmer for just a day or two.

Hey guys
Proud owner of a BK SM250, but I've been having an issue with my pump lately.
The pump stops pumping. I unplug it and plug it back in, and it hums a little bit with a little vibration, but that's about it. I am going to try and open it up this weekend and clean it out, but it is fairly clean already.

I've been reading up, and seems that there might have been a recall some time ago with these pumps? Anything I need to know or be concerned with?

Can anyone identify this pump? I might consider getting a back-up. Always nice to have a back-up in case something happens.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Hey Jeremy
So, I opened up the pump and cleaned it all out. Seems that the disc on the back of the ceramic shaft might have broke and came off (see pic below). This pump went back to Proline (Canada) back in March 2011. I forget what they did, but I think they gave me this new ceramic shaft instead of whatever was in there to begin with. I forget all the details.

Anyway... is this something to be concerned with? Should I get a replacement shaft?
Also, can you let me know what pump I would need as a back-up? I am considering getting a back-up pump which might be nice to have on hand for those "just in case" moments.

thanks Jeremy!

BK180 Gen 2

BK180 Gen 2

Seems every minute or so I get a burp from the bottom of the skimmer -seems to send out a large bubble - everything has been cleaned and checked out ok, the only thing i'm wondering about not even sure if this would be the cause is the Red pipe - the cylinder at the top of the Red pipe - does this come apart for cleaning? - don't want to force anything cause that usually means more money

Any help would be most appreciated.

BKM External Skimmate Collection

BKM External Skimmate Collection

Is it possible to attach an "external" (to the BKM) skimmate collection container to extend the intervals between emptying out skimmate?

There are such setups done on other skimmers but I haven't seen such a setup done on a BK Mini...

You can definitely do it. The cup on the Mini is already drilled, you'll just need to find a small piece of pipe to glue into it, or tap that hole with some threads and install a JG fitting or similar to plumb off of it.

Since I'm still in the research phase and haven't yet placed an order, is this the "drilled" but plugged drain that you are referring to, as circled and pointed to in attached photo of BKM 180?

The skimmer sits in 9" of water - anyone no anyhing about the red cylinder coming apart for cleaning at the top of the stand pipe?

Yes, all of that comes apart atop the wedge pipe. You might have to work a razor blade around it to get it all apart, but it does indeed come apart there.

Thank You - is 9 inches too deep for the bk180 - should I lower it to 8

Seems Bubbles are being trapped under the plate then releasing as 1 big one
