Bubble King

Well your schematic is spot on. The bottom hat is permanently affixed. Mmmm... and I'm not sure I want to be the one giving out trade secrets about specific designs. ;)As a result of not seeing it action yet it would be be inappropriate for me to comment on the dynamics of air and flow. I'll refer this maybe to gtrestoration or Gary whom I'm sure can tell you a great deal more.

That plate IMO is an absolute must for the skimmer, not because the design makes it superior but because the volume of air and water the Red Dragon pump is pushing. Without the plate the turbulence would be unbearable. :)
The bottom plate as mentioned is not removable but at this point after 5 months I see no problem with that.

Thanks FunkieReefJunkie and gtrestoration! I suspected the
plate was glued in place. Otherwise, the air bubbles would cause
it to float inside the main chamber. :) I'm curious how long it takes
for detrius to build up beneath the plate. But five months is a nice
long time to stay clean. Disconnecting the skimmer once a year
for a thorough upside-down rinsing is reasonable enough.

I have used my BK500 for about 6 months now and I do have a bit of detritus on the bottom. A good hosing would take care ofthat though

hm...how come its only one drain pipe...
on my 300 i have two....
is this a new model ?

Dear Mike,

we switched the 2 x 50mm outless pipe in 1 x 63mm outless pipe. The change is simpler fur the customers to serve. There are no differences, both systems in the function works very well.

best regards.... Klaus

As previously mentioned by other BK owners, you are gonna love this thing, and as far as the single outlet goes, I am sure if Klaus says it is just as good, there will be no doubts...

Thanks to those who tipped me in when I was first adjusting mine, the twin outputs were really not too difficult as long as small adjustments were made and sufficient time was given...But, I am sure the ease of set-up just got much faster........

Hello, US-Reefers,

Pictures of news from building of prototypes...

a new Motor, first for external skimmers, a brushless DC-Motor, running from 0 - 5000 Upm, regulation with speed-controll and Poti ..... the Motor is running with 24 Volt, is very silent and first for titanium Needle-wheels for Bubble King skimmers. 5000 upm make very small bubbles... at the shaft end a magnetic clutch is taken up.. So we hope, the motor is ready at MACNA/Washington..

regards... Klaus

very small motor...

the inverter for transformation 220 V50 Hz AC to 24 Volt DC, or 120 Volt/60 Hz AC to 24 Volt DC...

speed running with normal-speed

speed-maximim running with 5000 upm....

the electronic for regulation the digital motor, softstart, speedcontroll and speedregulation with poti.... This is not serial-standart, itÃ"šÃ‚´s only prototypes...

in the future is possible, for regulation the air- and water input into the skimmers what the User want... So i hope at 2-4 weeks, the first skimmer is running with Highspeed motor....

Klaus...
What do you expect the life of this motor to be? What will wear first... magnetic clutch?

As usual your craftmanship is beautiful!

Dear Steve,

the life span of the ball bearings amounts to at least 5 years, maximum 10 Years. At the moment we testing new generation of ball bearings of ceramic... ceramic bearings is very hard and not corrosive. All pices of the new pump is industrial-standart, so we hope the complete Pump is running without problems, 10 Years ago....

We begin next year with the development of a diving-motor for saltwater-aquariums, with brusless DC-Motor. For internal skimmers and pumps for Movement and filtercirculation... the diving pump is without ball bearings, all Siliciumcarbide-bearings inside. This bearings running lifelong.

regards.. Klaus

Wow,

That really is the next step... I thought the Red Dragon was leaps and bounds ahead of the competition, but now I don't know what to think! It certainly is not making production costs and the skimmer any cheaper, but it could have a drastic impact on the skimming ability.

Wow,
John

I've always thought that a really high RPM NW will eat any other skimmers lunch. Guess thats why BK is on top.
Swweeeet.

For you BK owners, how silent are they? Deadly silent? Or just kinda silent. My H&S has 3 Eheims and it's not "loud" but you know it's in the room. I would say 3 Eheims is less than half the noise of 2 Sedras though.

I have two Red Dragon's on my Bubble King 500 and they I can say are "Deadly Silent" .........in fact when you unplug or plug them in you cannot tell if they go on or off.

I have the first DC motor model coming to the USA when MACNA is here in the Wash. DC area. It will be another 500 model though with the DC motors. Am I excited????? You Betcha!!!

To the BK experts: Is there a difference in performance of internal vs external? Is either one more easily adjustable, more difficult to work with? Would I need a lot of special plumbing, extra parts like valves/etc if I were to get an external?

Thanks,

David

David,

I cant really say if the external is higher performance or not. I have used a 250 internal and am now useing a 300 external. Both have equal adjustability.

You would need a "drive" or "feed" pump for an external skimmer.
For the 300, the ideal feed rate is around 500 gph.

-greg-

So the external IS a re-circulating skimmer, I did not realize that. I know you sell the units and I'm not second guessing, but 500GPH seems pretty low - I'm surprised. If you are running it insump you are passing a LOT more water through the skimmer than 500GPH. So the contact time is dramatically increased.
