Bubble Magnus NAC77

Does anyone have any experience with this skimmer?

I am running a Reef Octopus NWB150 with a Bubble Blaster 2000 and i just don't think it is working right. Doesn't produce much skimmate and i just don't feel it is getting everything out.

My tank is a 57G with 20L sump and stocked medium to heavy.

I have also heard good things about the SWC Extreme 160 but have heard good things about Bubble Magnus as well. I am just really confused and don't know what way or skimmer to go with, any help would be appreciated.

What is the water level that the skimmer sees? What is the water level in the skimmer? Where do you have the head of foam at during the majority of the time before it overflows? What is your bioload? How often do you feed? You have one heck of a skimmer there, and it could be something as simple as any question I just posed above. That Bubble Magus will not come close to what you have now.

The skimmer is sitting in 6" of water. Water level in the skimmer is hard to tell but i try to put it at the transition of the neck and collection cup sits. If i understand about the head of foam it usually sits 1-2" below the top.

Bioload - 2 Clowns, 1 Fire Fish, 3 Blue Chromis, 1 Spotted Mandarin, 1 Coral Beauty, just added 1 Foxface Lo

Feeding - Lately i have been feeding every day used to be every other day, Mysis and Hikari one day and Rod's the next.

I just re-read your initial posting. You have essentially made your skimmer an SRO-2000 by added the BubbleBlaster pump. It is rated at 180g, and you have it on a 57g with a 20l sump (5g sump), and a relatively light bioload. What you are seeing is normal. Adjust the skimmer to skim wet, but what you are getting is all that there is. If you are doing water changes often, you will not see any gunk as you see in these threads that display that.

Ok, i thought that might be it but i guess i don't have as big a bioload as i thought.

The sump is a 20G long and i am filling it with about 10G.

I try to skim wet but sometimes i think i am just wasting water and afraid that if i don't top off with SW every couple of days my salinity will drop. Maybe i am over thinking this i just expected it to remove more gunk than it does.

I thought when you put "20l", it was 20 liters...lol...

If you skim wet, you will pull more out, but remember, skimming also removes the good stuff. If it is a FOWLR tank, it is not so critical.

If anything, it is an awesome aerator!!
