The most important Part on a skimmer is the Pump

that is what i said from the begin.... good pump = good skimmate

Creetin you cretin. hehe. It's a floor sensor that shuts off a pump. ONe sensor upstairs, one down in teh fish room, both tied to return pump.

It is possible for make cheaper skimmers in Germany or USA ? Yes,... when the workers become the same Money as China-workers.. 0,80$/hour... that´s the Problem..

You nailed it right there Klaus!!!! If you want a great product there are 4 countries to buy from:
Germany
Japan
U.S.
Italy
And good labor cost money, since when have any of you bought a product that is made in China and gets used everyday that will last longer than say two years? Thats why I now refuse to shop at Wal-mart they pretty much force companies to set up shop in China and use cheap chinese labor and cheap inferior chinese raw goods. I will always support a company that makes their products with local labor and local materials first. I urge you all to do the same or one day its going to be your job getting shipped overseas.

I wouldn't worry about the Germans... They understand the American reef market has a large segment of reasonably affluent or affluent techno/equipment geeks who enjoy spending on "high end" products... That's their target market ;)

Great post!

I will say that there are quite a few high quality good manufactured in China. But those are factories that have been tooled properly to produce such goods.

knock off or no knock off if you can afford it you buy expensive stuff if not you buy from china. lots of branded stuff is made in china. the labour is cheap

So ER, MSX, Reeflo, Octo's are all junk skimmers........:D

Why do you guys knock china so much? You guys do know that Japan is the most technologically advanced country in the world right? Most of the inventions that we use daily come from Japan. From household appliances, entertainment gadgets, arcade machines all the way to cars come from the Japanese inventions. I would say US dominates another different field particularly in life sciences and research into biotechnology to find cures and vaccines. But then again, all other countries including Japan have such extensive research. By the way, do you know the latest Japanese invention by Japanese doctors is to cure a sick patient with a dysfunctional heart by obtaining a certain DNA sample or something from the patient's leg and transplant them into the heart. By this Japanese invention, the patient now does not need to take the risk to go for a major heart surgery. This is a breakthrough in the medical science arena by the Japanese doctors. So when you have heart problems but don't want to be cured because its Japanese/Chinese then enjoy that scalpel in your chest. I hope someone purchases this skimmer and it blows the crap outta the water.

Not sure what your point is. What does the technology and manufacturing capabilities of Japan have to do with Chinese skimmers?

The fact that an asian product does not work as well as others just because it's asian therefore automatically a knock off.
Anyways ostrow is there any progress among getting one of these tested?

Sounds like there are a few disgruntled people here with a chip on their shoulders about "asian knockoffs".

I'd say more choices = good for everyone. Those who hate purchasing chinese goods can stick with whatever they wanted in the first place, since they were not going to get one anyways. Those who want a more inexpensive skimmer can give the bubble magus skimmer a try, and post their results here.

btw :
The ebay page sounds like they used an online translator on a chinese article and pasted it directly on. For those who comment on "why can't they get someone who knows english" to write it .. i believe that is just the problem.

Well, the fact of the matter with these skimmers is this.
1) They must be converted over to a 120v
2) They are nicely designed
3) They are not as nice as the bk or some of the other ko's
4) The neck shows me they don't pull a ton of air
5) They should be a good skimmer for the price but not a top of the line skimmer
6) The MSX is still the best value out there as a china build with a great design and an italian pump

Unless a few someones test this skimmer rigorously, I'm abstaining from this thread. Wake me up when the nationalists move on and there is some DATA and empirical evidence.

I agree here folks. There's some commentary here bordering on racist so let's talk about skimmers.

No kidding. Mike, you are also right on.

I'd test on geoxman's terms as I've said.

It appears that the bottom will unscrew so it should be very easy to get to the pump if a problem arises.
I think they mean "As soon as a problem arises"

China has far more to offer the world than many people are able to recognize, but in many cases you have to look to find it.

There are actually a number of products that are built better in China than elsewhere, and there medical research is tops as well...

As a firearms collector, I've owned my share or Norinco rifles and handguns, and unless you try to stack them up against a custom built piece that will easily cost a minimum of $1000 more with a several month wait, 9 times out of 10 you can't find anything better. Norinco AK's are highly sought after, because they literally blow away the Egyptian or Romanian clones.

After breaking his neck, a very dear friend of mine went to China to receive Stem Cell injections (illegal in the US for some bizarre reason), and now he has use of his arms and hands. He also has feeling in his legs and feet. He didn't go to Germany, Austria, Japan or anywhere else, he went to CHINA for this procedure!

To get back on subject, my 2 mega-skimmers are the Octopus FDNW-400 and the ReefFlo Orca-250, both of which were manufactured in China for American companies that provided the design specs and sought to keep production costs down, which allows the the end-user (me) to have a very well designed and manufactured skimmer at a reasonable price. When buying these products from CoralVue and ReefFlo, I have the full warranty and backing of American companies that will stock spare parts and provide turn-around service should the need arise. However, buying directly from a Chinese company on eBay or elsewhere online, has time and time again proven to be a mistake for too many people to count, because once your money is transferred to a Hong Kong bank, you are "generally" at the mercy of the company to provide you with the quality of product that you assumed you were buying, and should anything ever go wrong, good luck having it covered under warranty by a "fly-by-night" manufacturer. I experienced this when I foolishly ordered a video graphics card from a HK based company over eBay, but after several months and several letters, I was successful in getting that company BANNED from doing any further business on eBay, and I also eventually got my money back!

As the founder of the "International Federation of Skimmer Whores", I will eventually own the biggest and baddest skimmer that Klause makes, but right now I simply don't have the available funds to make it happen, though I imagine that before the year is out, I will... I also intend to own a giant Spazz Volcano, which will be in the same price league!
