Bubble Tip anemone walking

I have had my bubble tip anemone for about 3 or 4 weeks now. It was fine for that time. I tested my water and found that my ph was really low about 7.5 and my alkalinity was low. I did a water change and added in reef builder. Since then it has started walking about 6 or 7 inches from where it was. Should I be worried?

Only if you have other corals that it might get close enough to sting

I have a few. It doesn't move fast so I just move them accordingly. My concern is that anemone will be okay once that tank stabilizes?

Start looking into using a two part (calcium/alkalinity) buffering solution. The powdered stuff such as reef builder is not a long term solution for pH and alkalinity ime.

Okay. So will the anemone be okay once the parameters settle out? Will the fluctuations hurt it at all?

It will move untill it finds a spot its happy.

I would suggest significant water changes with a good salt, ReefCrystals would be a good choice. I personally have done the two-part Ca/Alk additions. In my opinion, frequent water changes, a good quality salt mix, good water circulation, protein skimming and activated carbon is all you need.

I expect your anemone will be ok once things get back to normal (preferable ph 8.2-8.4). You want to figure out what's depressing the ph. What are you nitrates running?

I agree with the water change to fix the ph problem. My bubble tip will move around when it's not getting the flow it wants (either too much or too little). They are pretty hardy as far as anemones go.

Hi Reeferman29 ; I agree with Ocellaris123 a two -part calcium buffer solution will be more stable as an every day or automatic additive plus it is not as harsh as powdered additives. What kind off lights and what kind of food tdo you feed to your bubble-tip?:idea:

I do have a protein skimmer and run carbon. I have 2 12,000K daylight and 2 03 blue actinics all are 39 watts each. I feed krill and silversides a couple times a week. I have done two water changes already this week. I had my water tested at the store and they didn't tell me about my nitrates. I have to find my test tube for my test kit and then I can test everything.
