Bubble tip help

Hi everybody hope your all doing well, we are having a beautiful day in ohio!!

Im writing today in concern with my bubble tip. Ive actually started a few threads here to figure out what was wrong with it, I thought maybe temp, salinity, nitrates, nothing was really helping. My tank only has the anemone, and 1 maroon clown. theyve been together for about 3 weeks, and the maroon hosted right away.

So anyways, I had to take the maroon (feebee) to a quarentine tank. cant diagnose her with anything yet, but somthings wrong for sure (im working on this in the disease forum)

the fish has been out of the tank about 15 hours, and the bubble tip looks better than it has since i got it! It did stop having its bubbles on the tips... and now they are back full bubbled! its open wide.. whitch its been folded like a taco shell all week, and looks GREAT.

Is this maroon killing the bta? it was very agressive with it at first, but not lately, its been pretty gentle with it, when the fish started to look ill, it would just lay in it not moving.

im stuck feeling like i need to pick one or the other. Im doing everything i can to hhelp the fish, but once its at full health... am i putting the anemone at risk?

Tour, yes, you answered your own question.
I had one pair of maroons years ago with my roses, no more. They are brutal on the anemone unless the anemone is huge.
They are notorious for sucking on the tenticle tips and roughhouseing in the anemone. To which the anemone does not appreciate.
You may want to wait until your bta grows up quite a bit before putting the clown back in with it or replace it with a smaller clown.

The bta is about 3 times larger when spread out

Funny thing, the maroon never bit the tips of the bta, then when i came home yesterday she had a white funk on her bottom lip and was biting the tips like crazy (not biting them off though)

This is what led me to QT, her lip. I thought it was ick, and now Im beginning to wonder if it bit somthing and got stung. (white gunk fell off, and no other signs of ick, but she wont eat a thing and her mouth looks sore. Keeping her in QT for the time being, shes looking healthy tho.

But yeah, I now feel like I need to choose one or the other.

Ive been reading joyce wickersons book, and the statistics on keeping anemones in a tank for longer than 4 months is amazingly low it seems. i may stay fishless for a month or so

Kind of figured that was part of the problem, the darn maroons sure take there home for granted
As for keeping the anemones longer then 4 months, that isnt true, I have kept them for many years in my tanks with no problems, other then them outgrowing the tank or splitting and so have to part with a few of them.
Try clarki or true perk clowns for your anemone.
They are'nt rough and are fun to watch and they seem to really care about there homes.

I don't know if I totally agree about keeping Clarkis, IME they get just as big as Maroons and I had a pair that were just as rough on the nem as the Maroons were. I do wholeheartedly agree about the percs though. The only clowns I have now are a pair of Onyx that I got from Rod.FWIW

i felt guiltly even looking at other fish.... i choose the maroon it dident choose me. now im just going to return it? its almost as embarrassing as it is sad. If i can pull this fish thu.. maybe ill just have to keep the qt up n running for her

I have a similar problem with my anemone that its to small for my clown I think and the clown is actually hurting it when it tries to host with it. I think I might have to make up a new small tank and hook it up to my sump with a few PC lights on it and wait till it gets bigger to add it back in. I have had my clown fish for about 7 to 8 years now and they are very very healthy and really like the anemone just its to small and I the clown fish think its hurting it.

mx.. the first morning i woke up after having the anemone, i walked over to my tank to turn the light on and the anemone was the size of a quarter with tiny tiny tenicles and a gaping mouth, and my clown was still rubbing it as much as she could. i paniced, and spent 2 hours catching my maroon, and tearing apart the tank thinking it totally killed the anemone... of course i came home 2 hours later and it was fine, just pooping *grin* just thought id give you a laugh

maybe if you get a much bigger anemone same spieces the clowns will host it and leave the little one alone? just a thought...

i dont know if my fish will make the journey home anyways... i cant diagnose her for nothing and im at a loss for treating her. I ended up doing a copper treatment today. really dident want to because im pretty sure im not dealing with ick... being a newb sux, it seems like ive been learning the hard way every time

i would honestly keep the water clean and keep feeding her a little at a time. over the past 8 years i have let me tank really really go a few times the clown fish always survived and now that i really have my tank going nice they look better then ever.
the story on that is that clowns are very haerty adn can survivle allot. instead of doing all kinds of chem treatments on her let her and make sure the water is perfect. might as well give it a try and see how it goes. good luck man

she refuses to eat. the food literally bounces off her without her going for it. i tried garlic extreme, her fav. mysis, an antibiotic gel to put on food... basicly anything, and she wont have it. whatever is wrong with her, it started at the mouth.... and its spread under her chin.. shes acting stranger than she looks but theres def. somthing wrong

how long can they go without food? shes only almost two iches or so, developed her yellow in the stripes tho....

(btw... my anemone looks like a completely diff spieces since taking the fish out. i cant believe its the same one)
