bubble trap issue - pic included

This is on a Dual overflow 120.
Return is a Ocean Runner 3500

My bubble trap on my 40 breeder sump is acting like a skimmer.
i've tried with tubes all the the way submerged,..halfway, and in the picture i tried filling the trap with rubble and shortening the tubes yet it still bubbles over the top.

how can i get this to stop ?

there isn't anything in the water nor has anything been added to make it foam.

do i need to put a valve on the return and slow it down a bit ?

why do you have the pump going into the bubble trap? Why not just the drain?

huh ?...... the return pump is run correctly into the display.

lol,... unfortunatly the foam is coming close to reaching over the the back of the sump and running down onto the stand. no good

also this is putting a ton of bubbles into the sump with giving me a minor micro bubble issue in the display.

anyone have any ideas ?

yep.

dual overflow = 2 drains.

I had this problem and then it quit... I don't know why but it did. I stirred the water in that area w/ a tube and ever sine it hasn't done it. Maybe try putting a reverse durso there to allow the air to go up instead of down? dunno... sorry!

Oh, My bad. I assumed when you mentioned the return pump you had it running into the bubble trap.

What are you currently running for a skimmer? Maybe you need a better one?

The skimmer shouldnt be a reason for bubbles.

Only asking because based on your picture, you're not just having bubbles, but generating foam. I don't have a lot of experience in this hobby but I'm under the impression that foam is generated because of proteins and/or other organics being in the water. Thus, my first thought is that you're under-skimming; if it was simply bubbles, they wouldn't collect enough to create foam. It's just a suggestion, make what you will of it.
