Buffing Help

I am going to be buffing out a 4ft 55 gallon tank which has a moderate amount of scratching.

Can you point me towards any good articles/videos etc. on how to do this effectively? Or offer advice from personal experience?

Are there any decent buffing kits out there? or am I better off just finding the appropriate grit sandpaper?

Would a polishing product like those Novus offer be worthwhile?

After buffing, what is a good option for cleaning the tank in preparation for reef livestock?

Thanks for any help. :fish1:

I've been told that micromesh kit is the best thing to use. Im needing to sand and buff out my 8' 240..dreading it, even thinking of paying a company 75$/hr to do it at my home.

I just finished a 180g , and it turned out very nice. I started with 600 grit, sanding wet aqainst the scratches. I then stepped up in the following sequence: 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, and finally 3500. I soaked each piece in a bucket of water for 10-15 minutes prior to use, and made sure to keep it wet throughout. Swishing in a bucket of water occasionally helped me to keep the sandpaper from clogging.

I then used the Novus 3-2-1 system, and it turned out really nice. I started out by using a drill and buffing pads, but got better results doing it by hand.

Hope this helps!

By the way.......it REALLY SUCKS having to sand it that much, but is needed for any scratch that a fingernail can catch!
