Fantastic thread!! Many great shots. Congratulations to all.

Just for fun, I have elected myself Judge & jury, and have decided to pic what I feel are the best 4 pics so far. I have also decided to award best photographer to Aralis [your economy suck but you have great photographers :)]

Are these good choices or do you disagree?

a full day of getting stung and this is the pic that came out okay ... compared to others I took.

macro+cropping seems to be easier than using tubes and macro ... low DOF even at F16.

When taking these "on the fly" shots (pun intended), do you only auto focus or do you have time to manual focus? What lens were those taken with?

A little of both. The first one was with a 300 f4 and a 1.4 tele. It was shot in manual because of it's size and the distance I was from it. The other two were with the 105 macro and it's auto mode is kinda slash manual, so I let the camera start and fine tune it in manual.

I have no idea. I cropped it a bit. It was about 3/16ths of an inch. There is something inside. Looks like baby spiders. How'd it get your hair????

Must have found all the white ones I keep trying to get rid of LOL. Looks like there are legs on the top left too, ewww!

Thank you! I stood on a chair against the fence for 30 minutes shooting that little guy. I miss my old Nikon CoolPix 995 swivel body. That thing had awesome macro skills!

This was with the Canon 30D.

I've got that same camera (still have it, so I don't have to miss it).

I still have mine too, but it won't focus anymore. I dropped it any number of times over the years, the last time I caught it by the strap just as it tapped the carpet & that was it.
