Build Thread - Elos 160

Was planning plumbing today, this will be my first from ground up build. The drain on the Elos is setup for less flow through the sump than I have on my other tank but after some reading it seems many ppl believe that you should only flow as much as your skimmer can handle.
Here is what the drain and return look like.

I have a jebao dc12000 and it has a 1 1/2" output. I was going to plumb my manifold with 1" and just reduce the outputs to frag tank and reactors but would there be any gain to plumbing the return with 1" even though it tapers to a 3/4" barb fitting at the end (and actually a little smaller as it enters the return nozzle contraption.

That makes sense. I think turnover, which is separate from flow, should be no more than 5x total water volume. It will allow for greater contact time on your skimmer.

I think perhaps i will draw something up and submit for criticism. Thanks tdhnry i thought it made sence when i researched it. I have 2 mp40s for flow and i can run the jebao at minimum and graduate further when i plumb into the frag tank that will drain back into return chamber.

I can run my reactor outputs from either left or right side. I have a recirculating bio pellet reactor which can draw from any part if sump and return to skimmer. Just not sure if i should reduce the output to return at the T fitting or run it up and reduce just before the 3/4 barb at the nozzle.

If this looks like. Poor design please let me know so I can rethink.

Thanks
Henry

I can't see your tapatalk pics. I'm pretty sure anyone that's not on tapatalk cannot see them. Try uploading via photobucket or the attachment option down below.

I don't understand the overflow. Do not restrict the diameter of the pipes from large to small. Got to figure head lost, with all the manifolds your planning to put on, always want to 10x the flow with volume of water is key, also you need to calculate the flow of the overflow as well. Home page has nice tools to calculate all that, I used it while building mine.

Mlivvy is there a way for me to edit my prior posts?
Robert the elos overflow/return cannot do 10x they are designed to use powerheads for flow and less flow through sump.
I am going to create a photobucket album to post photos in just in case I cannot fix my priors

The elos sump had been modified so I pulled out all the glass/plastic baffles and took a shot at designing my own sump.

My first attempt did not go so well (during water flow test the water was fairly loud because i guess i made the drain area too small and it flowed too fast. I cut out baffles again and I think its better now.
