Build thread of the Monterey Marinland 265 84x24x30

Little update on sump.

Changed out the home depot CFL for LED. I ended up with led that is rated from 5700-6500k. 9x 2watts leds. It looks a bit white. Maybe I should have gone with warm white- 2700k

Well see how it turns out. Its very bright. Got from ebay. Just google: cree led flood light if interested. They are 15.99 shipped from China. So, takes couple weeks.

New fish addition. Great personality. Only fish that swims around like nothing up during a water change.

My newest life support doser. Dropped Po4 to 0.00. Colors are looking better.

Not sure if had something to do with more spot feeding, more fish feeding, reducing PO4 with Lacl3, adding Julian's amino acid, dosing vinegar over several months, changing many 80 degree optics to 40, or doing water changes to every 2 weeks, instead of 3. Probably all of them.

May get rid of refugium soon. Not sure yet. Still figuring out how to get nitrates down. Stuck at 5ppm

Very nice tank and awesome growth.

What made you go with Lanthanum Chloride?
Thanks

Broken Hanna checker kept reading .13-.16 for about 3-4 months after several Po4 reducing attempts. I do have some hair algae, so I knew they were elevated, just could not pin point why it would not go down.

So I tried a for sure way to drop Po4 in no time. Actually quiet simple. May do away with GFO soon too.

Mike,

after reading your entire build thread. i just want to say WOW. your Tank is just AMAZING!
i am trying to replicate your tank just in a 55 :) ( same sump setup and all )

just wondering have you tried Brightwell Aquatics Xport-PO4? alot of people are saying it does work over night ( so do a little at a time )

Thanks, that means alot, considering when I built everything....... I was into this hobby for less than 1 year. I was really nervous about the whole project, and glad it worked out!

I actually am using Brightwell Phosphat-E right now(but I have commercial grade seaklear for future), I mix about 10mls in 1 liter R/O, dripping into a 10 micron sock. One drip every 2 seconds or so. The sock is clogged about same time the NaCl is done dripping. 10-12 hours.

Wow, that is really impressive! very well thought out and designed flawlessly.
makes me jealous! planning on re-building my sump to follow your setup.
i am still in awe...

Might get rid of chaeto, and grow out some dragons tongue macro. Chaeto is little messy.

Lets see how they do over few months span

Very nice job on the tank. I am looking at a 265 and I really like how yours has turned out.
Would you change anything if you were to do it over again?
I am torn between an 8' tank and the 7' 265. I really like the 24" width of the 265 versus 36"+ DD tanks.

Great Job !

Thank you. If I could do it again, I would try to eliminate the middle brackets that are hard plastic for something glass. This would eliminate shadows. But not a big deal.

Also, I think I would make skimmer section larger and frag area, smaller refugium. I dont think refugiums are effective unless they are huge.
