Might get rid of chaeto, and grow out some dragons tongue macro. Chaeto is little messy.

Lets see how they do over few months span

I thought the benefit of chaeto was the fact that it grows so fast and becomes messy. The faster a algae grows the more nutrients it consumes. From my understanding dragons tongue isnt that great at exporting nutrients?

I found the cheato was collecting detritus, food, and other unwanted stuff when I stoppped using filter socks

Yes it grows fast with correct lighting, flow, and good amount of nutrients in the water. However, my goal is to get rid of refugium. Slowly working on it via other nutrient export techniques.

Biggar, from the looks of it.. cover that reactor.. don't let it get light also make sure the skimmer gets all of the output water.. that bacterial growth will grow all over the sump.

Update

Update

Been awhile since my last diary input. I want to first say, I was honored to be a part of the tank hop, and im always around for questions or suggestions. But, im still a newb. ( :

Still dosing vinegar 60ml daily, and just got good deal on a bad arse Bluefin biopellet reactor, so i decided to put that to work. Phosphate and Nitrates still lil high. 5 nitrate, .13 Po4. Few days ago, I added nice sicce 1.5 pump to get them pellets really turning. Well see how it turns out.

I did notice that dispersing reef chili and rotifers 2 to 3 times a week has helped bring in some color. Slowly but surely looking better.

I took few pics during water change, so there are some naked corals involved:

I forgot what this one is(its one of the ORAs), but it really has colored up nice since I picked it up from mark

My high hope pack starting to show signs of life. Tyree pink lemonade, blueberry ..., blah blah blah

Some randoms

^Thanks. Its called a strawberry fields montipora. Similar to seasons greetings.

For some reason, im getting patches of new growth. Stems popping put on corals that were in slo-mo. Glad to hear yours is growing well

New addition

New addition

Bluefin Reactor and Bluefin pellets. Powered by Sicce Syncra 1.5.

This reactor is much bigger than I expected. Its huge! The pump does nice job with tumble. Rated @ about 350 GPH. 23 watts.

Lil Cyano building in refugium. I guess that means its starting to work. Hopefully.

Are you dosing a bacteria additive as well? If not you might want to consider doing so. Otherwise you could see more cyano. Your system looks great. Don't fix what ain't broke :)

My newest life support doser. Dropped Po4 to 0.00. Colors are looking better.

Not sure if had something to do with more spot feeding, more fish feeding, reducing PO4 with Lacl3, adding Julian's amino acid, dosing vinegar over several months, changing many 80 degree optics to 40, or doing water changes to every 2 weeks, instead of 3. Probably all of them.

May get rid of refugium soon. Not sure yet. Still figuring out how to get nitrates down. Stuck at 5ppm

Your dosing Lanthanum Chloride in that IV dripper? Care to elaborate on what your process is? Im thinking of doing the same. Which phosphate remover are you using? Im trying to source out the best one locally.

Slief aka Scott did this as well. The guy with the 500 gallon fish tank on LA fishguys. I believe its that pool company of La chloride. Sea Klear or something like that. You also have to mix a correct amount of la chloride with ro water in the iv bag and drip into 10 micron filter socks. There's a timed process on the drip and the filter socks clog quick. I'm sure Biggar can go into depth with this.

Im not dosing bacteria. Sounds like a good idea, but just letting it go naturally at the moment. Which brand is recommended?

Sure, its simple:

1. Buy SeaKlear Commercial Strength
2. If you can fit them in, get the 7" 10 micron socks off the diesel guys(ebay)
3. Get 1 liter IV bag.
4. Mix SeaKlear in 1 liter RO(I use little less so I can mix it in the IV bag)
5. Last time I dosed 7.5mls in one liter. Brought PO4 down .07 in 300 gallons.
6. I use a drip rate of one drop every 2 seconds.
7. If water gets cloudy, slow down the drip rate

Only get this one. Other one is watered down version.
