Bulk head fittings

Can anyone tell me why it is that a 1 1/2 bulkhead fitting's threads on the out side do not fit any standard PVC thread to slip coupling? and where I can get a thread to slip coupling that will fit it (outside threads).

What I am trying to do is take the dropout lines from the tank and change them to PVC rather than the vinyl hose and I do not want to reduce it down by using the inside of the bulkhead fitting.

Let me guess, the inside threads are a standard PVC thread, but the outside threads are non-standard for the nut?

That would be correct.

As to why, it because most companies lack foresight and a real understanding of the mechanics involved on the marine side of the hobby.

word. just get slip bulkheads and insert pvc into them. it wont reduce the water flow

i'd go with the slips also, then you can adapt to any size you want
