Bulk heads. Who's got um?

Bulk heads, bulk heads, who's got my bulk heads.

I have a brand new tank, but I can't fill it because I need 1/2" bulk heads. I went to that pet place and all they had was 3 slips. I need four and if I got slips I would be wasting a good amount of money. I would have to go buy slip plugs and glue them in place then through way the bulk heads and plugs later.

East Coast Aquatics usually has bulkheads, but give them a call before you head up to make sure they have enough.

just a heads up. your going to want to put ball valves on the back of at least the drain lines as well, preferabally tru-union. that way you can build your CL and then just pull the plugs without draining tank. the ouputs arent as important because you can just drain tank below the ouput levels which shouldnt be much water. i think the plugs are a good idea to use even with the ballvalve so you dont get stagnant water sitting back in the drains.

I have some bulkheads in my plumbing bucket - not sure what size, but they are probably thread. If i can dump out the bucket without the wife throwing a fit, i'll take inventory this evening

Thanks Shawn, Thanks Safir. I had thought about possibly just doing the closed loop right now, but really just in a rush to get this thing up and thought that it would be faster just to close it up. Since I might have to order the bulk heads anyways I may just set it up. I honestly have never had a large tank or that many corals requiring a large amount of circulation, so at the moment I don't even know what is the drain lines and what is the return lines.(in the closed loop, I understand the megaflow setup. )

I've got six of what appear to be 1/2" slip/thread bulkheads - the O.D. of the threads (on the outside of the bulkhead...) is about 1 1/4" and the inner threaded portion is a little smaller than a quarter. I've also got some larger slip/thread and slip/slip bulkheads, the largest is 2-2 1/2" O.D.

Unfortunitly I am have never been able to find a threaded female plug that fits on the outside of 1/2" bulk heads. :-( I also probably need threads on the inside because if I only put a plug on the outside of the tank then there is no way to add a closed loop later with out draining the tank.
