I was told to get a larger return pump. I have a 1.5" drain hole in my 110gal and am running a mag9.5. how much gph can i do before it wont drain fast enough. is ther a formula. If I can get bigger what is a reliable pump with low wattage? thanks for any info.
RC drain calculator shows a 1.5" can drain about 1200gph and with head loss you're 9.5 is well under that but how much flow are you looking to run through your sump?
thanks guys!! I do not think i need more than 1200gph for that size tank but do want more than i have now with the 9.5. Im only prob. getting 800gph with it reaching 4'. If i were to switch pump for a little more uuumf and less wattage what is a good line to look at? Do you think that the 800 is enough and leave well enough alone? The tank has 19" of overflow area and has one of durso pipes in there.
IMO 800 is ok if you have some power heads or something. It also depends on what you are keeping not everything need flow.
For efficiency I think the water blaster maybe the most efficient in that range. However if you heater is coming on then maybe you don't care about efficiency - you need heat who cares where it comes from.
The size of your pump (and return flow will be limited by the size of the bulkhead connected to the durso. If it is the usual 1.25 or even 1.5 standpipe connected to a 1" bulkhead you are really limited to about 350gph.
