Could really use some help/pointers on installing a bulkhead. It is going on my sump, it is set up for an external or submersible pump. Can anybody please offer a newbie some pointers on installing the bulkhead so that it doesn't leak? I have tried a couple of times and gotten small leaks.

I have a 1" bulkhead, and a 1" PVC plug glued inside the bulkhead. There is no problem with the plug, just where the bulkhead meets the tank. Thanks guys.

Did you put the rubber inside or on the outside of the tank? It is supposed to be inside of the tank if you are not too sure.

Depending on where you look, it says gasket on the inside or gasket on the outside.....rather confusing.

I have always heard that the gasket goes on the wet side of the tank. Look at your blender. Gasket only works if it is on the inside of the blender's pitcher (between the glass and metal piece with the blade rather than between the metal piece with the blade and the plastic screw-on cap). Make sure that you tighten it well, but be careful not to overtighten if your sump is made of glass. Good luck.

Just like what 'Che' said. The gasket should be on the wet side of the tank and the part to tight the bulkhead should be on the dry side. Hope this help to clear up your confusion.

The gasket should always be on the flange side, regardless if it is on the wet side or the dry side. To simplify, the tightening nut should always be on the opposite side of the gasket.

Agreed. If the gasket is on the same side as the nut water will leak through the threads.

Correct.
