Bulkhead ?

I acquired a 120rr, but the factory bulkheads are janky. I want to replace them with non barb fittings, but I can't seem to find the correct size. I have no idea who makes the tank. All I know is that the holes drilled for the overflow are 1.75" or 44.45mm. The 1" bulkheads are too big, and the 3/4" seems too small. Any advise? Thank you

Standard 1" bulkheads use a 45mm hole or 1 3/4"???

from BRS
"C.42mm/1.65" (Installation Hole Size)
Use our 45mm Diamond Coated Glass Drill Bit for DIY installation."

Bummer, I wanted to use sch80s, but I guess I'm going to have to settle for abs. The sizing is confusing for us slow folks.

It doesn't matter -- SH40 and SH80 have the same outer dimensions. The difference is the thickness of the pipe itself, so the inner dimensions of the SH80 is slightly smaller.

Also, bulkheads don't have barb fittings. I think you're talking about the insert with a barb fitting that goes into the bulkhead. I agree that you should have have holes for 1" bulkheads -- they're all standard size so any brand should fit. Usually the holes cut for bulkheads are larger than they need to be so that the bulkhead should just drop in. The gasket will prevent leaking.

A 1" schedule 40 bulkhead will fit into a 1.75 inch hole as will a 3/4" schedule 80 bulkhead, but a 1" schedule 80 bulkhead will not - it is larger! Also, the bulkhead fittings that come with the Aqueon overflow kits do have hose barbs built into the bulkhead, but I have never seen them for sale separately that way.

FWIW, a schedule 40 bulkhead is sufficient; the more robust ones are nice, but unnecessary IME.

OOPS... sorry I completely mis-read the post. I thought you meant you were going to use SH80 pipe with the bulkheads. In that case, it doesn't matter what size bulkhead you use, but if you're planning to use a SH80 bulkhead, then it does matter. Can I ask why you want to use a SH80 bulkhead?

Regarding the Aqueon overflow kits, this must be a newer change. In the past they came with standard bulkheads, and barb fittings that slipped in. That's really dumb on their part to make it as in all-in-one piece.

I personally would just get some regular bulkheads (not SCH80 unless you need it to match) and call it a day.

Thanks for the info. I was confused about the sizing, but I figured it out. Apparently I need 1" abs bulkheads or 3/4" sch 80's, per brs' site. I definitely don't want to use a hose and clamp on the bulkheads that came with the tank. Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Was helping a buddy of mine setup a RR Aqueon 75 just last week which is when I noticed the bulkheads with integrated barbs. Probably makes sense for the casual hobbyist, but I'm with you, not for me!
