So - My new Nikon d300 was supposed to get here yesterday - and the delivery person, instead of knocking or ringing my doorbell just left a message on the door - it seemed odd...then today, when my package from BandH got here - it was unusually light...like about 8 pounds light and one corner of the box was torn. So I took tons of pictures of the box and the damage, opened the box, and the camera body and lense were missing!!!!

I was so bummed - what a shame! I have filed with UPS and sent a message to bandH immediately - I just hope that it is resolved quickly so that I can take pictures again!

Anyone have any experience with this type of theft? It seems that the delivery person either stole it, or was at least an accomplice to the crime - I cant verify this, obviously, but the circumstances of a "failed" delivery, when they dont knock or try to deliver, with the next day delivery of an empty box are just a bit too coincidential for me.

-Super bummed I cant take pictures all this weekend!

Wow...that stinks. That is the one reason I get stuff sent to my workplace. Even though I live in a good area, I just don't trust packages left by the door.

I am sure B&H insured the package and they will take care of it quickly. They are a top notch company with top notch service.

I just got a package from B&H and there was a signature required. I don't blame them. $900 is too much to leave on the doorstep.

I signed for it - the camera was just take out of the box before I signed for it. The bummer is that its a holiday today, so I cant reach anyone. If I had actually received my package on the day I was supposed to, I could have dealt with this - unfortunately some theives had their own Idea about how to really disappoint me on this great holiday.

Yes, I agree with above. There is on some carriers a form for description of damages; usually your driver will have that.

I doubt he signed for the actual package. I've had UPS leave notes on my door that a package will be re-delivered tomorrow, and you're supposed to sign the note saying you authorize that... something to that effect.

It isnt the same as signing that you accept the package though, this one just indicates you're OK with them dropping the package off. Otherwise you can check the box that you'll go pick it up at the UPS outlet.

UPS always does a ding dong ditch, even with live fish, marked "Adult signature required"
8:53 PM they drop off a $1000.00 dollar Aquatinics Solar Flare on my doorstep, No knock, no doorbell, no nothing.
Would not have known it was there except my wife saw the UPS driver run across the lawn heading for his truck.
It would have sat on the porch all night with the light shining on it until I left for work in the morning.....

That's horrible. I hope you can find a resolution for this, one way or another.

Guy, your avatar just makes me thirsty.

That sucks! Sorry to hear about your troubles Kyle. :(

UPS does leave signature required notes at the door. You sign it and leave at the door for them and they door bell ditch the package like USPS. If you're home cool, if you're not, hope you have a good neighborhood.

One drawback from a UPS claim is that your address will be flagged. At our last place of residence we bought a leather office chair that was blemmished. OfficeMax told us to just leave it assembled at the front door and they will have UPS get it. Well, UPS was not the ones who got it. After the incident our address was flagged by UPS. EVERY package after that from them had to be signed for in person which got annoying.

WOW thats horrible, they've done the same with me except it wasnt nearly as expensive as yours.
We've ordered cloths, tools, reef goods,i can go on but never have any of my family been there to sing for.
400$ jacket left on our pourch swing.
I use to think that if no one was home they would take it to a postoffice near.

yes - No camera from them - I need to wait for about 10 days until they solve the claim - then, hopefully I get a camera - in my opinion - that's not very good customer service, they should replace it immediately and deal with UPS to get the money back themselves!

Really disappointed that B&H did not volunteer to send a new camera out to me - I told them I was really frustrated that they have my money and I have no camera - regardless that it was stolen after they mailed it - I stil hold them at fault. If the packaging had been better (they only have a thin single box), instead if they packed with styrofoam or thicker box - they would have had to do a lot more to get into the box.

Its just a bummer that I wont have a camera for at least another 10 days - I hope that B&H will do something to compensate me for this.

It's not B&H's fault that your camera got ganked. I know it's frustrating, but think of it from their end. Any yahoo could call them up and say that their camera got stolen by the delivery guy. If they just sent out new cameras all willy-nilly, they'd be out thousands of dollars.

They have to protect themselves as well as serve you. For all they know, you took the camera out of the box yourself and are trying to get something for nothing.

Be patient, and remember that the easiest way to deal with customer service folks is to be courteous and respectful.

How goes the good fight?

I used to have B&H paint my Canon boxes gold so if a thief peeked in the box they would leave it alone. I guess I'll have to resort to other ways ;)

UPS picked up the box yesterday - so, just another week or so until a decision. hopefully they agree that it was a theft, but if not I certainly hope that B&H honors their side of the deal, I purchased something and it did not arrive to me. I'd hate to have to resort to other actions.
I will not get into the legal issues of whose fault it is, but nonetheless, they need to use stronger boxes and better packaging to make sure they are not in this situation again. This is how they protect themselves. I as a customer do need to be made whole.

Apparently the Gold boxes are "hot" these days Surfer!

To be honest, I dont see how it is B&H's fault at all. I would totally blame UPS if you were going to blame someone.

However, if you didnt insure the shipment you might be out of luck.
