Buried Yasha goby??

Picked them up on Thurs, acclimated them, and welcomed them into my empty 24x24.

I released them near a prepared burrow where I wanted them to take up residence, but they wouldn't have it. The goby hopped around on the sand and found himself a crack in the rocks in the back corner and the pistol went straight for the opposite corner and buried itself. I gently dug it out, and it wandered around towards the rocks and have not been seen since, although I hear the snapping.

The Yasha ate a live brine and frozen mysis mix the next day from his back-of-the-tank burrow.

I saw him out and about today, he was perched on a rock in the middle of the tank. Talk about unusual goby activity. I fed him while he was out to encourage that kind of behavior, and he ate.

Went to the fridge to put away the left over food, came back to the tank and he's gone. Can't see him anywhere. His burrow is open and he's not in it. Tank has a lid on it, not in the overflow, sump, or on the floor. I'm assuming he buried himself.

Never had a stonogobiops before... do they even bury themselves?

Update:

Found them in the craziest place... they were inside a piece of dry rock, inside a hole in the rock that is about 8 inches off the sand. The hole is so tiny the Yasha seems to have a lot of trouble wiggling in and out of it. They popped out once I put the tank into feed mode and some food hit the water.

I've never seen or known these gobies to dwell in rock. Probably not unusual at all, but I've never seen it. Kind of doubtful they would prefer to stay there as I'm sure the shrimp will eventually made his way down to the sand and start some burrows.

Anyone have similar experiences? I'm assuming the pistol preferred finding a hiding spot in the rocks ASAP rather than try to dig around in the sand upon introduction, and the Yasha just happened to find the pistol today and decided to move upstairs.

I ve had them bounce around. Pistol relationship is rocky at times . I've seen them abandon the burrow . Lost goby to pistol shrimp. No real realing ryme or reason.
