I try to go the stores that support club with a discount but for convenience I used to stop at the cranberry store. Well I will never give them another dime..

Went in on Sunday cause my fridge broke so all my frozen food thawed. Grabbed 2 packs from their freezer and they have a nice selection. Have bought it their before. I asked girl at register if they would maybe give a. Discount like some of the other lfs in the area. She said she would have to ask manager. He comes out of his office with a scowl and says "what are you asking for?". I tell him the name of the club and that a few of the other lfs give us a 10 percent discount and before I could finish asking if they would also he replies in a strong attitude....

"well your not getting it here"

I nicely pushed my items back to girl at register and told him to have a nice day. He then began to day if I want to go and talk to the owner feel free but he's not giving out any discounts.

had he been nice about it and said sorry. I can't but I could send an email and see if we could I would still bought from them. he just had such an attitude about it.

Ya - you gotta wonder = not real good customer service. I will stop by the one on Rt 8 occasionally just to see what they have, I also buy 50 pound dog food bags , and it is always very difficult to get help- very understaffed, and the service is terrible. I usually just pick it up and carry it myself- no carts available, no help available. Check out person does not even say "oh- can I help you or anything like that" - no "thank you" , etc. If I could get that same dog food elsewhere I would.

not all burtons are this bad the one in monroeville it getting alot better and customer service seems to be a 100x better. i know they dont offer discounts to the club. i was told in a nice way. i have a green bta that i purchased. it was attached to a rock and the foot was deep inside the rock i ask if they could get it off the rock because i didnt need it and didnt want to pay 7 bucks per pound. he said he couldnt but would sell me the rock for only 3 buck a pound. i was impressed with that and always have a great experience there. it is unfortunate with the other burtons but like i said not all are that bad.

I thought I was the only one. Burtons stinks! there selection is bad the service is bad and the prices are bad. I live near rt.8 like acer, and if I have a choice to go to Burtons or Seahorse, I'm deffinatly going to the Seahorse.

I've had similar lackluster experience, although it's one of the only places that I've found locally that carries this particular brand of Cyclopeeze:

As a thread tangent, is anyone else a fan of this product?

LOL. If you think the conditions for the animals in Burton's are bad...check out the reptile section of Aquaworld sometime. Personally, I won't patronize either. I'll either pay for the better service at Seahorse, Elmers, or Wet Pets...or I'll order online.

agreed, i forget how many alligators they had crammed into that tank but i just shook my head and walked out the door.

lol...i was trying to get ahold of you roland...and i was at aquaworld today too...they are there in the back mixed with the turtles

I'm not an animal activist, but someone should save the poor animals at the Burton's in Greensburg. There's more algae in the tanks then in the ocean! Everything tends to smell like bums use it as a restroom and I don't really think I've ever seen food in the rodent or reptile enclosures. Well, there are only 2 people on staff at a time, so I guess that is a good reason for not feeding or up-keeping the animals. Only pet store I've ever been very upset with and discussed with at the same time.

Saving them would mean buying them...which would in-return have them sell more :( Best thing to do is just not to buy from them (not that I would anyways). I think Wal_Marts fish section is cleaner than Burton's, and that's just SAD!

In general, I prefer Burton's to the massive chains (Petco, Petsmart, Petland), but I agree that their saltwater tanks are pretty sucko.

I was actually a little underwhelmed by Seahorse, and Elmer's still remains my favorite lfs so far. I haven't yet been to Wet Pets and I hold out hope that they do right by their fishies. Seahorse had some beautiful display tanks, but they they also had a bunch of mandarin dragonets in tiny partitioned tanks without any liverock or substrate. They all looked malnourished, and most of them were kind of hovering by one of the walls of their enclosure. They also had a bunch of turtles in a little pond by the door, one of which kept flipping onto its back. I dunno, I just came away with a kind of skuzzy feeling. Plus, they sell puppies which I have all kinds of separate problems with.

wet pets is decent.

I don't think you can judge seahorse by a turtle... And the puppies are not milled last time I checked. Although im not a seahorse fan boy. ;)

I have also never purchased a fish from them either, just not found something i wanted basically.
