burying anemones foot?!?!

I just finally got my new haddoni anemone acclimated and into the aquarium. I have tried unsuccessfully twice to bury his foot. So I gave up on burying his foot and just dug a hole and set him in it. I figure once he attaches than I can bury around his foot. Does this sound like a good idea? Both times I tried to bury his foot he was out before the water cleared from the sand. So I don't know if I just didn't get him in or what.

If what I did isn't right please let me know what I should do.

I think you're ok. Nems have been taking care of themselves for millions of years, without us. You did right, creating a 'convenient' spot, and if the flow feels right to it, it will take hold.

I've occasionally built a rubble 'cradle' to nestle a nem in, to keep a rambunctious nem from drifting.

DO PLEASE take care of all outlets to be sure you have sponge over powerhead intakes and everything he could possibly get a tentacle into shielded: that's the most common problem. They get up and 'go with the flow' and immediately end up in an intake, shredded and in a very bad way. It works in the ocean, but in our tanks most outbound currents lead to serious trouble.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I have already protected all intakes. My clowns have already found the anemone. Hopefully he settles in quickly.
