wrought iron butterflies?

unfortunately the only one i've seen in a reef is of a video with a juvenile personatus angel.

should be fine i guess with some risk.

but almost always kept in FOWLR tanks.

I want to switch my display tank with a bigger one ( the bigger tank has been in my spare bedroom for a year ) and then I want to put in sum corals with the wrought iron butterfly (currently in my quarentine tank )

This is what Jeramy told me he use to have a wrought iron in a reef
( He would not nip coral polyps, but would eat mesentery filaments the coral exuded due to feeding/irritation etc. )

dolosus should be ok.

dolosus and the related butterflies in the complex are more of open water feeders right? if i'm not wrong. they should be quite safe.

This is an amazing thread.

I am wondering if anyone had an experience with the golden butterflyfish and would like to tell me about it. Are they reef safe ?

peter, did you see the hybrid xanthurus X guentheri?

i posted it on reef builders but i think i'm not allowed to link it here.

it's an awesome fish but a pity it was dying!

and to answer the above question, golden butterflies are by far and large, quite problematic and destructive.

Handsome fish! I had to google it... I've never seen one before.

I do not think that I will get it any more
It is better to wait for fish you really want (a tank is only so big :sad1: )
So I will wait for a chaetodon flavocoronatus and a Prognathodes guyanensis

Oh wow, how stunning, Lemon!! A shame it didn't survive :(

flavocoronatus... LOL... I'm patient, but I'm not that patient. ;)

I have a new tank coming and I've been researching the idea of butterflies in reefs for a while. Ideally, I want butterflies and dwarf angels.

I have a lot of experience with hard to keep tangs, wrasse, and anthias. But I haven't tried butterflies yet.

The tank is a 103~ Gallon "Square" tank. 36"x37"x18".

Any ideas on which butterflies I should look into. I have no trouble spending a bit on the rarer fish, so feel free to recommend what applies lol.

Edit:

Also as far as QT goes, is there anything you guys are treating for specifically? For instance, anthias I have always hit with prazi-pro regardless of whether I have seen signs of infection or not while in QT.

I plan on picking up a few species soon, so I can get a good 4+weeks of QT prior to my tank being ready.

Posts 197 and 206 I talk about my QT.

As for recommendations, I think most of the classic "reef safe" choices might be too large for that size tank. What sort of "reef" are you planning?

Got my new forcipiger flavissimus yesterday. He's not eating yet, but is swimming all through the water column and seems to be hunting in the rocks. Just can't get him to eat any frozen or pellets yet. Fingers are crossed...

My two new additions. Not really a reef tank at this point, but I'm working on it, long story.

Well guys I took the plunge - well, got my feet wet :)

Picked up a multicinctus last night for $10. Couldn't resist, I tried. Can't beat wholesale price really...

Anyways anyone have any experience with the pebble butterfly in a reef? Thoughts?

Its sitting in quarantine right now so it will probably be another month till it hits the reef.

Thanks!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess this thread might be more about "what happened after you did it" than "what do you think will happen" ;)

Yeah probably so. I have always wanted butterflies though. The pebble was not on my list but i went to the guys house to pick up a flame angel pair and saw the pebble swimming around and had to ask. I was looking at getting a tinkerii, mitratus and saddleback but none where in stock from where he ordered from.

I am 3/3 with my fish trap though so if it gets crazy out it goes.
