butterflies in reefs

I just love that emp!!

And it looks like Peter was right about anemones being delicious (to butterflies)! My dusky was initially put off by the sting, but eventually she was hungry enough that the stings did not matter. My yellowhead has paid the anemone no attention at least, but the dusky was too nippy and I moved the anemone to the eel. I picked up a beautiful pair of tomato clowns that have spawned three times in order to guard it from the butterflies. I hope I don't live to regret this; I'll find out when their QT period is over. If they're too aggressive they'll be easy to move at least. I also added a few sps. The dusky has sampled the green and pink birdnests and the acro, but doesn't seem to be doing actual damage yet. ALL of the fish devoured the orange monti cap. The other fish have shown no interest in any of the other corals or anemone. The dusky is my big picker, pretty much as expected.

It will be interesting to see what happnes with the clowns. That is just a theiry on my part, not experience.

So I'm thinking of moving my marginalis into my reef. I just don't think he is dealing well with the competition of many other butterflies in the FOWLR.

Peter the pelwensis and punctuatofasciatus are two different fish very similar in color but paterns and shapes are a bit different. I wonder if you would trust the pelwensis in your reef tank. Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone

Hi,

2 months ago, I acquired 7 pieces of punctuatofasciatus likely from a Philipines shipment.

punctuatofasciatus are much less aggressive to its own kind compared to the other butterflies and I have read some online literature that suggests that they are also relatively reef safe, not 100% but relatively safer compared to other butterflies.

After a period of QT, they were released into my DT.

A few of my corals were eaten, brains, lobos, acans and montis were being nipped at. They attacked only one of my tube worms.

Hammers, torches, sun corals, Zoas, plates, anemones, mushrooms, gorgonians and goniporas were safe.

I suspect those that were being eaten were also unhealthy to begin with, especially my palm size lobo, which was stung by mushrooms

Peter the pelwensis and punctuatofasciatus are two different fish

Yes, I know. The consensus on this fish was hybrid:

The eagle has landed! Holy wow are these two fish nice! Off to go acclimate....

Of course! :)

And it looks like my yellowhead butterfly has discovered how wonderful sps tastes now. She might be worse than the dusky. I don't think the corals will be lasting long, sigh.

LOL, I saw that, but wasn't terribly thrilled by the colors. The kite butterfly intrigued me way more :)

Gorgeous butterflies, you guys! I love that copper color on the robustus so much. Good luck with the both of them.

And unfortunately I don't think I have the guts to continue with the clown/anemone idea. I don't want to risk stressing the butterflies out or make any part of the tank "off limits" to them. The clowns will just get their own tank I guess lol.
