Butterfly and angels in FO system

I have been out of the hobby for several years. Back then, I have a very large reef system dominated by SPS and smaller reef friendly fish. As I come back of sorts, I am inclining to try something different and a bit "simpler". If there is such a thing with marine systems!:uhoh3:

I would like to set up a FO tank and house nothing but smaller reef friendly fish along with several butterfly and a few smaller angelfish. Tank is probably going to be in the 300g range.

Anyone has anything similar that could shed some light into compatibility of butterfly and other non-aggressive fish? Yes, of course I am doing a search and reading for days prior to even starting, but I think this is something I don't remember ever seeing anyone do. Therefore, I suspect I will find little.:fun2:

Slightly off topic, but I like keeping fish in groups/pairs, especially butterflies.

Look for them in the Fish only and aggressive fish and the large tanks forum. There are quite a few.

I use to have a very nice butterfly tank with an incredible Emperor Angel, I had quite the collection of butterfly's and I sure do miss it.

Current Lineup - waiting for the 350 to be completed:
Koran Angel
Flagfin Angel
Goldflake Angel
Coral Beauty Angel
YellowFace Butterfly
Pakistani Butterfly
Declivis Butterfly
Vagabond Butterfly
Dot Dash Butterfly
Longnose Butterfly
Pearlscale Butterfly

Waiting to find a nice Pyramid, Raccoon and eventually CBB.

So far all are playing nice together.
Hope you find some nice specimens.

If you want to keep "the door open" for SPS down the road (you know the full blown reef bug will eventually bite, right?) you can go with the angels (I have personally kept imperator, blue face and regal in SPS dominant reef) and be selective on the butterflies ....maybe CBB, longnose, pyramid, heniochus and I am sure there are others that might work in an SPS reef down the road...
