Butterfly fish to eat mojanos?

My lfs has me convinced that 3 butterfly fish will eradicate my mojano infestation pending I remove my limited supply of lps to my qt... What are your thoughts on this? Will butterflyfish eat my sps? Over the past year I've tried everything but a tear down this just sounds to good to be true ... Opinions appreciated!

Butterfly's IMO will eat SPS. I put a pearlscale butterfly in my tank on my LFS's recommendation to help with an aiptasia infestation and spend the better half of the next day trying to get it out to return it to the store because it immediately started chowing on my SPS. Your better off just trying to nuke them yourself.

Which Butterfly?

Personally I had great luck with a Chaetodon ulietensis or the double saddle butterfly. I had a huge problem with mojano's in my old 58 gallon and he mowed through them with gusty. Of course after that he started mowing through the zoa's next. They are NOT reef safe for sure. Depending on what you want in keep safe in your reef will determine your milage on one naturally. ;)

I currently maintain a Meuller's Copperband butterfly in a SPS dominant reef tank along with Favia, Acanthastrea, several chalices, and a Symphillia without any problems. It WILL eat Aiptasia however. Don't know about Majanoes though I have previously owned one that did eat them.

IME the copperband butterfly (Chelmon rostratus) will not eat Majano (note correct spelling) spp. anemones.

Klein's Butterfly (Chaetodon kleinii) is much more likely to attack Majano anemones. So is the bicolor Angelfish Centroyge bicolor but both these species are much more likely to attack corals than a copperband butterflyfish.

All 3 of these species can be kept together peacefully if the correct environment (ie: large enough tank etc.) is provided.

I've seen aiptasia and majano in my overflow boxes (hundreds of them). I recently cleaned them out and it was the first time the overflow boxes were drained and cleaned since the tank was installed in December 2005. But I have never seen either in my DT and I do have a Copperband in there so.....

I know this is from last month but I would like to add my experience that a kliens butterfly will eat aiptasia then when it's done with that move on to corals. Good if you can remove one after it has done it's buisness but my aiptasia grew back recently. Maybe I got a bad one, should I try for another?
