To all of the zoa keepers here. I need info on whether button polyps are the same as zoas. My polyps have 1" long tentacles and the heads resemble zoas but all the pics I see zoas don't have long tentacles.
FWIW, they are essentially the same thing. Where I am, button polyps usually meant Protopalythoa (or redescribed as Zoanthus gigantus? from a new paper). There is a possibility that some 'Protos' may be different than the Z. gigantus (not sure if I have the species name correct), but it looks like at least some 'Protos' are in the same genus as those commonly labeled zoas.
Thanks for your reply.. My only choice is to start buying from online now so that I can get true zoa's. The one's I have are on a rock about the size of a baseball but when open it looks like a soft ball. Thanks again.
there's a couple LFS around here that has a lot of so called brown one's, It's the lights there under. there's a Thread here some were's that SurfNVB7 was talking about it. i'll see if i can find it. Maybe someone else can help out I've saw brown Go to alot of really bright colors
