Buying Calcium Reactor for 350 Gal Setup - Need Recommendations

Hi,

I currently have a 350 gal reef setup that's a little more than a year old and going great. Up to now I have been using kalkwasser and 2-part calcium supplements, but I am interested in branching into SPS and and will shortly be buying a suitable larger calium reactor. I prefer to go over-sized (as I did with my Euro-Reef RC 12-2 skimmer), in anticipation of eventually expanding my setup to about 475 gallons.

If you have experience with some of the larger calium reactors I would love to hear from you, and your recommendations.

Tage

I have mine custom made by Loc01 for my 240g tank 350g total system. It work great for me. If you are interested, drop him a few line in his PM box. Here is some pix

Hope this will help

2nd the shuran it is the only new technology in reactors. uses alot less co2 and introduces way less into the aquarium. a jet stream 1 is what I have and it is on my 265. I have it running very low and I actually do water changes to lower my calcium. without any other additions my alkaliity raises .15 meq/l . that is not whats produced and used it is what it raises the value in the water above and beyond. I had a geo which is a good reactor but old technology. the jetstream 1 is good for I think up to 800 gallons or so. check to be sure. the jetstream captures unused co2 and re injects it back into the water to be used again.

I have an old stlye dual chamber Geo Ca reactor. If the incoming flow is to much mine tends to leak thru the top gasket, quite a few floods. Because of this and now the bottom flow design is supposed to be more efficient I want to up grade my reactor. The price on the Geo is attractive but I'm worried I would have the same leak problems. Schuran Jetstream, H/S and I think Deltec have different designs which seem more leak proof. Do you newer model Geo owner have any cons about your reactors? How about the rest of you other then Geo owners?

No problems at all.

I could not say enough good things about the GEO reactors. I ahve a custom made one and it rocks the heck out of anything costing 2-4 times as much.

Check out www.marinetechnical.com

these guys are from NJ and build an awsome setup w/Iwachi pump. They ain't cheap but well worth the investment. I have had mine up an running for almost 6 years and no problems whatso ever. When you call them.......you actually talk to the makers.........not someone just answering phones. FYI.....one of the guys can not hear very well!!!!!!!!

IMO...
-best built : GEO (overbuilt)

-best design for set & forget: korallin (not the most convenient, but hey, how many times a year are you really going to open it up anyways?)

-highest output: deltec fluidized (I know this for sure...they rock!)

-most efficient : seems to be the schuran according to most people

honorable mentions...
-H&S
-Barr

ditto for me
MTC procal reactor works great, easy to adjust and work with !

they also make great skimmers.........
